Poland and Sweden, together for security

Swedes are proven allies, 1 of the most crucial partners in NATO – said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish after signing another agreement with Sweden. This time, cooperation is to focus on activities in the Baltic and defence technologies. The gathering of the heads of defence departments of both states took place during the MSPO.

The talks of Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Pal Jonson, Minister of Defence of Sweden, concerned, among others, ongoing preparations for Poland to take the Allied command of the Baltic in 2028 within the framework of Command Task Force Baltic, in which Polish, Swedish and German units have been active since 2024. Politicians besides raised the question of enhancing anti-aircraft defence capabilities and identifying, inter alia, early detection and informing aircraft SAAB 340, which already operate in the Polish sky. “These capabilities will be needed from year to year more and we are talking to Sweden about this,” said the Polish head of the MON.

After signing the Polish-Swedish cooperation agreement, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish thanked Pal Jonson for his commitment to the Swedish Armed Forces in joint defence of the Baltic Sea, the airspace on the east flank of NATO and joint military exercises. Deputy Prime Minister recalled that the fighters JAS 39 Gripen stationed in Malbork were repeatedly approached to patrol the Baltic but besides the border with Belarus and Ukraine.

– These are tangible effects of our collaboration: the presence of troops, trade, common shopping, joint exercises. We are allies, we have akin feelings about Russia. We know what Russia truly is, that it does not change its strategy and ideology – the head of the Polish MON argued. He pointed out that Poland and Sweden would defend Western civilization, European values and democracy. We'll be strong with each other. We are proven allies and we know that we can number on each another – said Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamish. He assured that the agreement signed present raises relations between the Polish and Swedish armed forces to the highest level. Through cooperation – as he said – both armies will gain “new abilities, fresh skills”. “We are liable for each other,” Kosiniak-Kamish stressed.

Deputy Prime Minister reported that a joint “meeting of Polish and Swedish armed forces and teams” was late held in Stockholm. – Another gathering will be held in Poland in October – announced Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Minister Pal Jonson, for whom this is the first visit on MSPO, he met representatives of WB Electronics Group and PGZ companies in Kielce. “Poland is working very intensively to strengthen its defence manufacture base. I will be very arrogant if Swedish companies can contribute to this," said Pal Jonson. As examples of possible involvement, he listed technology transfer and occupation creation. "We are taking another step in deepening our cooperation not only as partners, but as allies and actual friends," summed up Swedish politicians.
