With over 90% accuracy, it detects and classifys ships, land vehicles, aircraft or drones. The Detect & Classify system, presented at the global Defence manufacture Salon, was developed by engineers from Polish-Finnish company Iceye and Polish company Satim. Their product is already called revolutionary.
Detect & Classify system
Detect & Clasify is an innovative tool that combines high-quality SAR radar imaging with an analysis performed by artificial intelligence algorithms. Iceye is liable for satellites and imaging, and Satim is liable for automatic object designation technology. Effect? The user receives not only satellite image, but besides almost immediately ready information on the identified targets.
To date, specified analyses have required the laborious work of SAR experts, or satellite imaging. However, this does not mean that the strategy is to replace analysts. However, the time is crucial to supply useful data and applications, and thanks to Detect & Classify, analytical data will be transmitted at the same time as satellite imaging. This means that useful intelligence will be sent to the user almost in real time, frequently in a fewer minutes. A fewer hours at the latest. According to experts, this is simply a revolution, especially since the effectiveness of classification of objects reaches 90%.
– The combination of a comprehensive catalogue of Satim objects with advanced quality SAR imaging provided by Iceye gives a product with powerful capabilities that eliminates limitations of manual analysis and provides customers with direct access to applicable intelligence information. Thanks to this, it improves situation awareness and accelerates the making of key decisions – emphasized Jacek Strzelczyk, president of Satim.
From Russian tanks to phantom ships
During the presentation at the Kielce arms fair, examples of the usage of the strategy in images from Russia and Belarus were shown. Detect & Classify recognized aircraft, military vehicles and vessels with very advanced efficiency. For analysts this means faster capture of patterns and anomalies, and for tactical teams the ability to immediately indicate targets. The strategy besides opens up fresh prospects for the Navy, allowing more effective detection and capture of "spective ships" utilized in illegal trafficking or criminal activities.
ICEYE position on MSPO 2025
These are not the only applications of Detect & Classify. The strategy allows to make imaging and analysis of the site before and after the combat operation, so that it is possible to accurately measure the effectiveness of military activities. During a presentation in Kielce, satellite images were shown from Russia, where the Ukrainian army conducted in June 2025 Operation Spider Targeted in strategical aviation. Comparative analysis allowed to measure the failure of the opponent.
The largest SAR constellation in the world
Iceye, a contributor to the system, is the owner and operator of the world's largest SAR satellite constellations. Thanks to them, unlimited access to any place on Earth is possible regardless of atmospheric conditions. Satellites offer a 25 cm image resolution, allowing you to detect and monitor objects in all conditions, regardless of weather and time of day.
