In future, territorial defence troops should have more firepower. This can be provided by 105 mm artillery systems. The solutions in this substance were presented during this year's global Defence manufacture Salon by the South Korean company Hyundai WIA. The Koreans offered light whaubice and mortars both towed and self-propelled.
The 105 mm barrels have a lower burden capacity than 155 mm, but due to the fact that they are lighter, they can be towed by light tactical vehicles or carried by air transport, e.g. suspended under multi-purpose or transport helicopters. In addition, their maneuverability can be increased by mounting on vehicles.
This self-propelled weapon was created by Hyundai WIA utilizing elements of existing solutions, including the 105-millimeter KH178 towed barrel and Kia Motors' light KLTV training vehicle. This car is utilized in the Polish Army under the name of Legwan. Koreans developed not only a self-propelled hubbub, but besides 2 specialised vehicles working with it – a command vehicle and a ammunition car.
The module with the section was mounted on the K351 platform (a chassis with a wide wheelbase) with a weight of up to 7 t. The wagon is equipped with 4 supports which, at the time of taking up the fire station by the whaubice, extend and stabilize the vehicle during the shooting. The angles of lifting the barrel scope from 5 to 65 degrees, and the module itself with it can rotate around 270 degrees. Depending on the kind of ammunition used, the maximum ranges of a Korean barrel with a dimension of 38 caliber scope from 14.7 to 18 km. The maximum velocity of fire is 10 rounds per minute, but in the case of continuous fire there are 3 rounds.
The size of KLTV means that ammunition must be transported by a second vehicle. The ammo truck takes 40 rounds. In total, the operation of the Haubica set with an artillery truck provides 4 soldiers. In the case of towed KH178 it takes 5 or six to operate. However, the command vehicle uses a K152 vehicle weighing 5.7 t. His crew has 4 military personnel. These vehicles can be utilized to make plutonium or a battery of light self-propelled Haubics.
In addition to the barrel, utilizing the 7-ton KLTV chassis, Hyundai WIA besides created a lightweight 81 mm self-propelled mortar, which can besides be an interesting solution for light units.
Hyundai WIA presents itself on this year's arms fair in Kielce.
