Veteran Brotherhood Association Exhibition in Poland: UN Mission in Cambodia – Service and Environment
The Polish Armed Forces have been active in peace missions outside the country since 1953. The tasks were performed and performed in various regions of the world, including Africa, Central America, Asia, the mediate and Far East and Europe.
Over the years, more than 120,000 soldiers and military personnel have participated in more than 89 missions. 122 soldiers lost their lives.
The UN mission in Cambodia was 1 of the missions in which our soldiers risked their wellness and life in the name of global security.
The Transitional Administration of the United Nations in Cambodia–UNTAC was a unique UN mission in the 1990s due to its multidimensionality, objectives and tasks pursued. It was besides unique in geopolitical realities, as it was the first mission of the Armed Forces of Poland after the overthrow of communism in Poland in 1989 and following the political changes. It was besides the first mission in the past of the UN in which military contingents from Germany and Japan participated.
A description of the operation of the UNTAC mission allows you to realize decision-making and implementing mechanisms and to learn about experienced risks, challenges. The exhibition presents in chronological order successive stages of problems
Cambodian. Visitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the historical background of the conflict in Cambodia, including the panic of Red Khmer. After which, synthetically, the way to establish UNTAC is described. The mission mandate and organisational structure can be further examined. The author then focuses on the UNTAC logistics strategy due to the fact that the Polish Military Quota (PKW) carried out logistical and bomb tasks. The following tables present the main projects implemented by UNTAC, including DDR (demobilisation, disarmament and reintegration) and free elections. An interesting panel of the exhibition is the presentation of dangerous events in which Polish soldiers participated, including the crash of the transport chopper and the fight against the Red Khmers in defence of life and property in positions in Kampong Tom and Siem Reap. In order to feel the climate of the environment in which PKW carried out the tasks, visitors have the chance to learn about the tradition, culture and monuments of Cambodia. The last accent of the exhibition is simply a board presenting the activity of the Veterans Brotherhood Association in Poland. many photographs in large format - mostly previously unpublished and first exhibits make an exhibition interesting and informative.
Without doubt, the added value of the exhibition is based on the individual experiences and observations of the author, who was
a associate in the mission almost throughout its operation as Deputy Head of the Liaison Officers' Cell
Logistics/Section 4 Liaison Officer at UNTAC Headquarters.
The intention of the exhibition organizer is to pay tribute to all veterans for their dedication in service to global security. It is simply a valuable educational, historical and retrospective task that is worth seeing.
