While conducting operations, the bomb squad can't afford a mistake. That's why it's all about constantly improving skills. The last 3 days soldiers of the bomb squad from the 12th Wielkopolska Territorial Defence Brigade spent at the Engineering-Saper Training Centre in Biedrusek.
Basics and Short Reminder
Traditionally, the first day of training means for soldiers to check their theoretical knowledge. Before starting applicable classes, each has to compose a test, which is simply a pass for further training. The sapper's domain is continuous learning, exploring knowledge, but besides systematic repetition of certain activities, due to the fact that only training makes the master. It should be stressed that a bomb squad cannot afford routine.
Less experienced soldiers learned under the guidance of basic instructors, namely: building a fuse and blowing up a single load. Soldiers who had already mastered these activities went on to review the construction of fire networks (wide, parallel and mixed) and electrical networks (parallel, serial, mixed).
Day 2 – demolition of wooden elements
This time, the commander of the bomb company and instructors taught soldiers to destruct wooden elements in 3 ways: external (by cargo application), interior (by drilling drill holes, placing 2x75g loads inside and sealing the load). The last way to destruct was to wrap the tree with a detonating fuse.
Every training we train requires focus. Equalising the skills and level of soldiers is besides an crucial aspect. Soldiers who have adopted the basics well can take the next step and decision on to another issue, specified as destroying wooden elements or setting and destroying mines – explains the commander of the 12th Wielkopolska Territorial Defence Brigade.
Day 3 – establishing a group of mines
The last day of training at the Engineering-Saper Center, the Territorials spent learning to establish a group of combat mines. The last task was to destruct them electrically. All 12 WBOT battalions, bomb companies and 15LBOT soldier participated in the training.
