Academic Legion Training ongoing

Participants of the Academic Legion came to Pruszcz Gdańsk to have almost 4 weeks of training in the sub-office module. After the passed examinations in early August, they will be appointed by the Military Recruitment Centre as a corporal. They will later be able to go 1 step further, as the Academic Legion besides offers training in the officer module (62 days).

– I've already had 3 years of service to stop. Now I'm studying interior security, but I'd like to go further and become an officer. Academic Legion is another step on the way to this goal – says the general. Kacper Gołuński from a tiny village close Szczecinek. But his approach is not a regulation among the participants of the Academic Legion. Colonel Guzdek admits that most students do not associate their future with the military. – I survey aviation navigation, so I chose training in 49 Blot. erstwhile it's finished, I'm certain I'll be applying to the officer's module, but my military career is not my precedence right now. Wake up at 6:00.

Students in the sub-office module train in the unit for almost 4 weeks, six days a week. – Wake up at 6:00 a.m., 6.15 a.m. mortar, later an appeal, breakfast and first classes that last until dinner. In the afternoon, they have further trainings of a very different nature, as reported by Lt. Jędrzej Zieliński, commander of the Academic Legion at 49 Blot. Students who become part of an individual's life for a fewer weeks strengthen character and discipline. They participate in theoretical and applicable classes, including drill, tactics, shooting, and above all elements of command. – After the first organizational day we immediately went to instruction and method training. 1 of us was assigned as platoon commander, we've met all the commands. We spend quite a few time learning how to compose instructions, work plans, which is very crucial for the future sub-officer," says Private Buczak.

This is confirmed by Lieutenant Zieliński, who points out that during the training of the Academic Legion there is no time to learn the soldier's profession from scratch. – The participants of our training are to become sub-commissioners whose task is to command and transfer cognition – the officer points out. Within a fewer hours, teams had to travel on a map, stopping at taskpoints. Soldiers showed, among others, cognition of masking, weapon handling, field studies, radio communication, first aid and medical evacuation in combat conditions. – As 49 BLOT. we are not a training centre, but we are not short of space and we prepare tasks that require students to usage acquired cognition and skills in combat conditions – assures the commander of the Academic Legion.

Which differs a legionist from a voluntary one.

The participants of the training between the points entered into fire contact with the opponent (the pretenders were professional soldiers), so they had to stay vigilant throughout the course. Additional “attractions” provided a whimsical weather. However, no 1 complained erstwhile 1 had to crawl with an injured colleague in the rain or wear a gas mask erstwhile the teacher informed about entering the contaminated area.

– There are determined people in the Academic Legion who know why they do it. They don't break down and quit, says Colonel Guzdek. – I have a comparison with people applying to voluntary essential military service whether the preparatory services, which frequently came to the unit with a mistaken thought of what was actually waiting for them here. The Academic Legion is different. These people frequently want even more than the training program says 49 BLOT commander.
