A drone center developing unmanned drones for the military, advanced 3D printers for the production of drones in units and changes in the law accelerating their purchases. These are any of the elements announced by Caesar Tomczyk, Deputy Minister of National Defence, the drone revolution in the army. The task will begin in the coming weeks, and the first equipment will enter the military in September.

– We are starting a drone revolution in the Polish armed forces," said Deputy Minister of National Defence Cezary Tomczyk at the Institute of method Aviation after signing contracts with the directors of military investigation institutes concerning the improvement of tactics, techniques and procedures for usage Unmanned weapons systems.

The papers were initialled by Deputy Minister Tomczyk and their directors Marcin Szczepaniak (War Institute of Engineering Technology), Bogusław Kot (War Institute of Chemistry and Radiometry), Colonel Paweł Sweklej (War Institute of method Engineering of Armourment), Mirosław Kowalski (Air Force method Institute) and Colonel Michał Ceremuga (War Institute of Armoured and car Technology).

RECLAMA

Vice-President of the MON stressed that experiences of the war in Ukraine have shown the importance of unmanned systems and how they changed the modern battlefield. “That is why we were preparing the full strategy of changes to satisfy armed forces with unmanned weapons systems in the shortest possible time,” said Tomczyk. The foundation of these changes is the creation of a fresh drone center in ITWL. “It will be a place where military investigation institutes, military, state and private companies will meet to make the best unmanned systems for the military in a short time”, explained the Deputy Minister. The scope of the Centre's work will include design, production, testing, testing, operation of drones and method and method support. The Cyberspace Defence Army Command will besides be active in the establishment of the facility to prepare software for unmanned systems and usage artificial intelligence in them.

Ready-to-use solutions will go to units where they will be tested, then improved and improved to produce them on a massive scale. “We called the project, which deals with the full acquisition of the smallest drones for the army, “The Hornet”, Tomczyk said.

Another component of the drone revolution is to be mini-laboratories, or advanced 3D printers intended for the production of unmanned vehicles. They are presently being tested by 1 of the investigation institutes and will be intended for operational and territorial defence units.

As the first, this year, specified laboratories will receive 9 units selected by the Ministry of Defence, which will participate in investigating and improving solutions for unmanned aircraft. "These units have been selected from all types of troops, including special, territorial and operational ones, and will be able to test systems prepared by investigation institutes, including the printing of drones and their testing," he said. Brig-Gen Mirosław Bodnar, Inspector of Unmanned Military Weapons Systems at DGRSZ. He didn't want to tell us which units they were.

– The contracts signed present with investigation institutes concern to test about 90 unmanned equipment units in order to make the best possible solutions for the future and to check whether the current requirements of specified equipment correspond to the operational needs of the military," explained Brig-Gen Marcin Górka, manager of the MON Innovation Department. At the same time, he stressed that this technology is very crucial for the armed forces, which is why the task combines the military environment, investigation institutes and industry.

The full program, including the preparation and training of the soldiers from the unmanned service, as well as their testing, is scheduled to start in the coming weeks, and according to the agreements signed today, the first equipment to enter the military, as Tomczyk said, in September.

The deputy chief of the MON besides added that only this year the ministry will spend about PLN 200 million on purchasing training drones for the army, so that unmanned systems can be introduced into the armed forces at squad level. – We request simple, inexpensive training drones in large quantities to fill them with all military units and teach soldiers how to usage them on the basic level," explained Tomczyk.

The Deputy Minister besides stressed that the drone revolution besides includes changes in the law on speeding up unmanned orders. As Tomczyk pointed out, it cannot be that the equipment evolves very quickly, and the purchasing procedures last many months. – Now that military tests have been carried out and the urgent request for innovation, the military will be able to buy drones as it deems appropriate more quickly," said Tomczyk.

MON besides predicted another change in the law that would introduce the anticipation of purchasing the smallest drones straight by military units. “In the following weeks we will be informing about the next steps of the drone revolution,” the Deputy Minister assured.
