In the Sunday referendum, the inhabitants of Zabrza decided to cancel the current president of the city of Agnieszka Rupniewska. This means that early elections will be needed. The City Referendum Commission besides stated that due to besides low attendance the vote on the cancellation of the City Council was not binding.
The vote started at 7 p.m. and lasted until 21 p.m. The participants of the referendum received 2 cards - on 1 was the question of cancellation before the end of the Rupniewska term, on the another - the city council.

Some 29.6,000 votes were needed to make it crucial for the city council to be recalled. However, according to the aggregated figures from all the regional commissions, 29 106 votes were cast on Sunday, of which 26,551 voters voted for, and 2,555 for them. Initiators of the referendum accused Rupniewska of, among others, group redundancies in local units, increases in local fees, resignation from the organization of cyclical cultural events and the extended privatisation process of Górnik Zabrze. Local elections in Zabrze Rupniewska won in 2024 as a candidate KWW civilian Coalition. Although she competed with the support of the KO, she is not part of any political party. Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia. Before taking office, she managed a private industrial company.
In 2024 she won the most seats on the city council Civil Coalition – 11. 5 were awarded to representatives better Zabrza Kamil Żbikowskifour Law and Justice and the Manik-Shulik Committee. She introduced 1 typical to the council Zabrza Social Initiative.
