In WIM about the intellectual state of Polish society

Quoting G. Michael Hopf "Tough times make strong people, strong people make good times, good times make weak people, and weak people make hard times". During the conference "The intellectual condition of Polish society, and the intellectual wellness of Polish soldier and veteran" invited experts discussed the legitimacy of these popular words.

On 27 May 2024, at the Military Medical Institute – State investigation Institute, the conference "The intellectual Condiment of Polish Society, and the intellectual wellness of Polish Soldier and Veteran" organized by the Clinic of Psychiatry, Combat Stress and Psychotraumatology of WIM – PIB and the Centre of Veterans of Activities Outside the State Borders was held.

The gathering focused primarily on the needs of soldiers and the effort to specify the future needs of military wellness services, taking into account the available data, statistics, forecasts and own experience regarding the intellectual wellness of young people.

Dr n. med. Dorota Parnowska – a clinical scientist moderated the panel on "The intellectual wellness problems of young adults as a possible origin destabilizing the armed forces", among the experts taking part in the 1st panel were invited: Dr n. med. Piotr Jabłoński, manager of the National Anti-addictive Office; Dr n. med. Aleksandra Lewandowska, National Consultant on Children and Youth Psychiatry; Dr hab. n. med. Anna Mosiołek, psychiatrist specialist, manager of the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw; Dr n. med. Lidia Popek, psychiatrist specialist, provincial consultant for the Psychiatry of Children and Youth; Katarzyna Stankiewicz, psychologist-psychoterapist, head of the intellectual Assistance Centre of the University of Warsaw; Prof. dr hab. med. Marcin Warjar, psychiatrist specialist, head of the Department and Clinic of Psychiatry of the Warsaw Medical University; Zbigniew Derdziuk, president of the Social Insurance Institution.

Colonel Dr. Radosław Tworus, a psychiatrist specialist, led the discussion on "The Problems of intellectual wellness in the Army", in which the talker was Mr. Magdalena Gielerak, psychologist, Operations Command of Types of Armed Forces; Brig. Gen. Piotr Płonka, General Staff of the Polish Army.

Editor-in-Chief of the Cowzdrowiu.pl portal – Mrs Aleksandra Kurowska asked the panelists questions about "The selection and wellness qualifications of candidates for service as prevention of intellectual wellness problems of soldiers and veterans"
The guests of her panel were: General of Arms, Prof. Dr. hab. med. Grzegorz Gielerak, manager of WIM-PIB; representatives of the Department of Military wellness Service in the Ministry of National Defence Col. Olga Tokarz and Col. Małgorzata Rzepka; Col. dr. med. Tomasz Owczarek, president of the Central Military Medical Commission and Colonel Grzegorz Wawrzynkiewicz, Legal Advisor, Head of the Central Military Recruitment Centre.

Participants who wanted to talk actively in the discussion were invited to participate in the certified workshops:

Suicidological prevention in the military – leading colonel in st. sp. dr hab. med. Stanisław Ilnicki specialist in psychiatry, combat stress and psychotraumatology CSK MON WIM-PIB and Dr. Halszka Witkowska from the Faculty of Artes Liberales at the University of Warsaw;
Crisis intervention against people with a problem of addiction in the military – leading Mr Sebastian Chmielinski clinical scientist of the Clinic of Psychiatry, Combat Stress and Psychotraumatology CSK MON WIM-PIB and Mr Barbara Rodak specialist of psychotherapy of addictions from the Center for the Treatment of Addiction PPL tiny Knight in Warsaw.

The strong arrival of experts on the intellectual wellness of the military shows the request for dialog and the improvement of systemic proposals for soldiers who service now and in the future, which is why present we invitation you to participate in next year's edition.
