Wednesday The president of France has given a message to the peoplein which he spoke about the request to strengthen European defence and about the possible deployment of Western troops in Ukraine. He besides warned Europe against the threats from Russia and called for a fair peace agreement.

Zelenski responded to Macron's words, thanking him for his “clear vision”.

"Peace must be a reality, not just a word – it cannot mean surrender or fall of Ukraine," he wrote on page X.

He added that peace must be "fair, reliable and lasting", and that "it can only be achieved through strong and long-term safety guarantees — for Ukraine, Europe and the world."

"We profoundly appreciate the leadership and efforts of all those who support Ukraine and strengthen Europe's defence capabilities. I look forward to working together on steps towards peace in the coming days," added Zelenski.

In a message delivered on Wednesday evening, Macro said the planet faces major challenges. He stated that the French society was “rightly concerned” by the emergence of the “new era” which began after Trump returned to the White House, changed Washington's policy towards Ukraine and created the hazard of historical break-up of the US with Europe.

— I want to believe that the United States will stay on our side, but we request to be prepared to do so," he said. He referred to Trump's attempts to end the war in Ukraine through direct negotiations with Moscow, with the omission of Europe and Kiev.

He besides suggested that European troops could be sent to Ukraine to guarantee that the peace agreement was full respected. This, in his view, should be supported "maybe by the deployment of European forces" in this country.

— They will not go to fight today, they will not go to the front line, but they will be there after the peace agreement is signed to guarantee that it is full respected," he said.

He added that the European chiefs of staff would meet in Paris next week to discuss ways of supporting Ukraine after the peace agreement was concluded.
