EU leaders spoke together with Zelenski on Thursday before the extraordinary summit in Brussels to give impetus to the construction of a European defence union.
Its starting point will be the plan proposed by von der Leyen, which includes a debt package of EUR 150 billion and allowing associate States to increase defence expenditure outside EU budgetary discipline.
Costa stressed that expanding Europe's ability to spend money on defence would service Ukraine. “Our safety is not separate from Ukraine’s safety and defence,” he stressed. — Stronger European defence strengthens Ukraine's defence.
