Several 100 students from all years, educated in the Wroclaw Academy of Land Forces, take part in a field training in Żagań. Under the conditions akin to the actual battlefield, students learn to plan, organize and manage specialist tasks in combat activities. The university's experienced teaching staff is watching over everything.
Monthly training takes place in a rotational strategy – all 7 days. On 16 March, a 3rd group of AWL students arrived in Zagania. – The junior year students take part in the program training, and their older colleagues hone their skills as instructors under the supervision of experienced AWL teaching staff. On the another hand, students of the 4th year are excellent at staff work, performing duties at positions at the coordination point of the training and following the instructions of the officers of the command of the group – explains Colonel Michał Karkowski. He points out that many elements of training of AWL students in Żagań are the consequence of observing the war in Ukraine and drawing conclusions from it. – It is about elements of tactics, team, platoon and company, mainly in mechanized and armored troops. Soldiers besides practice according to a fresh shooting program, which includes driving fire from forced shooting attitudes and more alleged dynamic shootings," the officer explains.
AWL students train both in open space and in woodland. erstwhile operating in conditions close to the actual battlefield and in changing weather conditions, they build intellectual and physical immunity and get utilized to stress. In addition to combat ammunition, they usage laser shooting simulation system, whose sensors are placed not only on their uniforms but besides on combat vehicles and another military equipment.
– Podchorzyże undergo training in their specialities: mechanized, artillery, logistics, exploratory, armored, chemical, military equipment and the participation of specialists from support units, says Colonel Karkowski. He explains that future commanders should be able to rapidly measure the situation, analyse the available information and make the right decisions under force of time, which is not easy at an early phase of service, that is, during military studies. And he admits that it is especially hard for soldiers to do night activities that require adequate intellectual resistance, constant vigilance and orientation in conditions of limited visibility despite physical fatigue. – Another challenge is integrated classes. It is simply a two-day training combining the operation of various types of troops," the officer adds.
St. kpr. pchor. Jakub Szymczykowski studies in the 3rd year of uniform master's degree in safety engineering, the speciality of defence against weapons of mass destruction, a individual group of designation and liquidation of contamination. As he emphasizes, the biggest challenge he faced on the ground is commanding soldiers. “This time has helped me to realize the tactics of chemical troops in real activities and not always perfect conditions. The best thing I could do was pull things off at the platoon level, various military specialties, to do my job. I am pleased with my and my colleagues' contributions to these exercises. Both instructors, instructors and professional soldiers have provided us with the best possible training – says the student.
The benefits of the training are not only students but besides lecturers. As Colonel Michał Karkowski states, it is an chance for them to verify theoretical content in the applicable dimension of actions on the ground. – In addition, presently thanks to the launch of the Military Institute of Types of the Division of Command Land Army Academy in Żagań, and then the beginning of the Field Training and Stationing Centre in 2024, the university's military has the anticipation of almost continuous training of the subjects – says the leader of the group.
Current training of students and staff of the Wrocław AWL will last until the end of March.
