Lieutenant Michał Krawczyk is simply a military officer who served as commander of the ammunition depot in Hajnówka, from which he left a cargo of anti-tank mines. He was liable for the preparation and escort of transport. Later on, he arranged for an action to recover the dangerous cargo.
The missing mines thing. They were in IKEA magazine
It turned out that 1 of the containers was overlooked. The container with 240 anti-tank mines for about 2 weeks was circulating around Poland in civilian railway cars. Mines yet found themselves in a civilian store IKEA.
— This communicative began in the fall of 2023. During the inspection, the Inspectorate of Support stated that there was a large number of mines left, and in another places they were missing. The decision was made to centrifugal these materials. We waited for this decision, but nobody spoke, and only in May 2024 the inspectorate woke up – said Lt. Krawczyk.
— It was me and the deputy warehouse manager from Krapkowice who signaled that this is impossible due to the fact that the vacation time is coming. I have no strength and resources – he explained in a conversation with Marcin I pulled. Transport yet managed to prepare and send to the Bridges. By the time he got there, however, he was detained and photographed by unknown people.
– With each transport, it was the same place. We have informed object officers about this, but I am incapable to exert force on people from the service," said Michał Krawczyk.
Insatiable erstwhile receiving dangerous and valuable cargo?
He besides said that the transport of thousands of mines received only 2 sentinels in the Bridges. “I leave the work of these people in the Bridges to measure the prosecutor’s office, but to be honest, this should not be the case”, he said briefly. He assured me that everything was under control until then.
Then everything was unloaded onto the ramp, and the lieutenant from the lineup at the Bridges was to emphasize that everything was recorded. “And it surprises me: did the prosecution safe or not?” he asked, referring to the surveillance footage. “As she secured, I think she knows who failed to fulfil his duties with this unloading,” he added.
The soldiers regained their mines, but were punished
After 2 weeks, Lieutenant Kowalczyk received a call from the Bridges about the deficiency of 1 batch of mines. He then found out that mines were found in an IKEI magazine in Orli. As he stated, there was a human mistake due to the force of time.
— I'm going to quote what 1 of the soldiers told us. I quote: “A man who did not know how to deal with explosives commanded us who did not know those principles either. It just couldn't work." It follows that there were quite a few people there, if anyone, who were not trained to handle these measures," Kowalczyk emphasized.
The guest in the podcast, the lieutenant mentioned that his superiors had accused him of not informing the MPs immediately. I don't think anyone realizes or isn't truly aware of what happened. There was time, due to the fact that we learned that 2 and a half tons of explosives stand in IKEA, where many people work," he explained.
– We can't talk about buns, that individual left, then we'll come. These are mines, this is explosive, there are people who have no thought what a mine looks like, what you can do with it. This can't go on. My reaction was immediate. I sent people there – he reported.
For that action he and his soldiers received prosecution charges. “It can’t be that people do something right, do it for the army to defend his good name, and they just get stupid and pretend that everything is in accordance with the law. That's not right. Those 5 of my men who went to get mines were besides punished," he pointed out. He emphasized that 1 of them committed suicide after information about the charges.
