Established more than a 100 years ago, Podchorzego Day, on 29 November – on the anniversary of the outbreak of November – reminds of the heroism of listeners of the School of Infantry Podchorze in Warsaw, attacking the residence of the Russian invaders. What is the importance of these events present for subjects from the Military method Academy, and how do they view their service?
– This vacation reminds me of patriotism, courage and dedication of young subjects in the fight for Poland's independence. For Mr Kacpra Karczewski, Podchorzygo Day is an chance to “reflection on past and inspiration for our homeland”. “On Podchorzego Day, I think about the courage and determination of our ancestors who fought for the freedom of Poland,” says Karczewski, a student of the Faculty of Cybernetics WAT.

Podchorzego Day was established in memory of events of 29 November 1830, erstwhile a group of subjects from the School of Infantry Podchorze in Warsaw under the leadership of Lieutenant Piotr Wysocki attacked Belveder, residence of the large Duke of Constantine, Russian commander of the Polish army. This started the November uprising – the largest national spring of the 19th century.
The anniversary of November night as Podchorzego Day was first celebrated under partitions in 1908 at the underground Podchorzech School in Lviv. The festival was permanently introduced to the calendar after Poland regained independency in 1918.
