How to safely evacuate an injured individual trapped in the wreckage of a vehicle, which components of the structure should be cut to get to the victim as shortly as possible, how to operate the AED defibrillator for first aid in case of abrupt cardiac arrest? These issues were rehearsed by soldiers from the 18th Capital Territorial Defence Brigade with firefighters from Kobyłka OS.
An accident on the road, in a crushed car is simply a stuck driver who has a suspected spinal injury. He's awake. Now you gotta scope him rapidly and safely get him out of the wreckage. Apart from firefighters, there are soldiers from the 18th Capital Territorial Defence Brigade. This was briefly the script of the training, which the territorialists and firefighters went to the Kobyłka OS. “This was the first training from the cycle initiated by the Mazovian branch of PCK, which cooperates with our brigade,” said Przemysław Szuszki, spokesperson for 18 SBOT. 36 soldiers took part in the classes. The groups are deliberately little many so that each can usage specialized machines himself and practice each of the course elements.
The participants of the exercises played different roles, including the victim, so that, as stated by Skarczko, they could feel the situation of the injured person. While soldiers embodying in lifeguards provided assistance to the trapped driver's car, others tried in all way to make their actions difficult, creating various types of barriers to overcome during the evacuation action. – The biggest challenge was just evacuation from the wreckage and reaching the injured man with an escape board with suspected spinal injury. The action was led by teams of three–four people, focusing on safe, minimizing any vibrations, taking out the victim," says SBOT spokesperson 18. But the soldiers did a large occupation with the tools utilized to cut the wreckage.
In conclusion, the best ones who carried out their actions were awarded the best. The training is to be done by all military with 18 SBOT.
The soldiers of the territorial defence troops learn first aid during their training, evacuation techniques of wounded from the battlefield, besides undergo a qualified first aid course and often, not always in uniform, engage in various actions and aid the services, for example, in transport accidents, erstwhile it counts to be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations. “This is how they carry out their mission to support the local community,” stressed Przemysław Łuszczko. And in specified situations, they may request cognition acquired during training in Kobyłka.
WOT Command reports that only in January 2025 the territorialists provided assistance to victims in respective traffic accidents. In any cases, they were the first witnesses of events. This was e.g. on 18 January in the area of the military unit in Rembertów. The witnesses of the incidental were just soldiers of the capital “eight” who provided first aid and secured the injured and the site of the accident until the service arrived.
