Register of medical robotic procedures, changes in law and joint investigation work are any of the objectives of the established robotic surgery, artificial intelligence and telemedicine group. The originator of the consortium is the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw. The group plans to cooperate with military centres in promoting robotics operations for the needs of the army.

– We are setting up a consortium on issues related to the fresh technologies behind Robot surgery – said prof. Grzegorz Gielerak, manager of the Military Medical Institute on Monday, February 10, at a gathering devoted to the creation of the Polish Group of Robot Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Telemedicine.

In WIM, representatives of the consortium institutions signed a letter of intent on this matter. The group included: WIM, Świętokrzyskie Centrum Oncology, University Clinical infirmary No. 4 in Lublin, University Clinical infirmary No. 1 in Lublin, University Children's infirmary in Lublin, University of Warsaw and Medical University in Lublin.

RECLAMA

General Gielerak, head of WIM, reported that Medicalians in Poland have more than 60 surgical robots at their disposal. On the 1 hand, as General Gielerak noted, this improves patient availability for this treatment technology, but at the same time poses a challenge to wellness care as to how to usage modern technology effectively. – Our goal is to give a fresh organisational, technological and investigation framework for the future development of robotic surgery in Poland so that it settles in the Polish marketplace for good and is not only effective, but besides effective," said WIM director. Therefore, 1 of the first tasks of the fresh consortium will be to make the first central registry of robotic surgery procedures in Poland. – Thanks to it we will be able to learn the real number of operations carried out with this technique, possible adverse events associated with them. We will besides learn about the effectiveness of treatment and on this basis we will be able to plan the improvement of this field in Poland – said Gen. Gielerak.

The manager of WIM besides talked about the essential changes in law. As he recalled, robotic surgery was created in the army so that in the future patients could operate at a distance. “Today the technology makes it possible, but we have no right to let specified measures, so it is besides the task of the consortium to work on changes in regulations,” explained the general. He pointed out that the work of the consortium would positively influence the improvement of robotic technology in medicine, which would benefit patients.

At the meeting, Maria Mrówczyńska, Deputy Minister of discipline and Higher Education, wished the consortium to implement its intentions, due to the fact that everyone wants to enable patients to usage medical technology at the highest global level. "A consortium with specified a composition gives specified certainty," she noted.

On the another hand, Prof. Alojzy Zbigniew Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, stressed that the university he led wants to contribute to an even better quality of robotic services rendered to patients. He calculated that scientists in areas specified as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and artificial intelligence could contribute. "We will besides be able to influence what is happening in robotic medicine in Europe and in the planet with a common commitment to investigation and treatment," said the Rector of the University of Warsaw.

Dr Karol Rawowicz-Pruszyński of the Medical University of Lublin spoke about the advantages of robotics in the treatment, stressing that its usage causes little complications in patients, shortens their stay in hospital, so they return to everyday life more quickly. As stressed during the meeting, WIM is the leader of robotic surgery in Poland. There are treatments utilizing robots in 10 different specialties, and Since 2020 at WIM Robotic Surgery Center specialists conducted nearly 1800 specified treatments.

– The consortium consisted of Polish leaders in terms of robotic surgery, telemedicine and artificial intelligence, as explained by Dr Jacek Doniec, Head of the Centre for Robotic Surgery WIM. He added that the aim of the group is to organize the medical robotics marketplace in Poland and possibilities for the implementation of artificial intelligence in medicine. In parallel, the consortium plans to make a programme of cooperation with military centres on, among others, implementation of robotic procedures for the needs of the armed forces.
