The incidental occurred in early January in the area between the Russian-controlled Bachmut and the city of Timeiw Jar. Ukrainians have fierce opposition in the Jara Times and its surroundings due to the fact that the city is strategically crucial in the Donbas battles. It lies on a hill, making it easier to defend than to attack. However, if the Russians had captured them, they would have gained a large starting point for the offensive for the next towns – Constantinówka, and then the largest cities controlled by Ukrainians Donbas – Kramatorsk and Slavic.
Pole injured in Ukraine
On 3 January, the Russians launched a ferocious attack on positions defended by a 35-year-old Pole named “Loki”. 2 of them have penetrated the trenches occupied by the Ukrainian army. The Poles and Ukrainian soldiers moved towards the Russians to, according to the Ukrainian military nomenclature, “purify” the trenches. “Loki” went first. He was regularly receiving information about the Russian position from the Ukrainian drone above them. However, these were not sufficiently precise.
— I was almost at the end of the trench,” recalls a Polish volunteer we talked to. I got word on the radio that 1 of the Russians is three, 4 meters from me on the left side and he's injured. So I leaned over to shoot him. Then it turned out that the Russian was not only injured, it was besides in another place, about 10-15 meters from me consecutive ahead. When I leaned out, prepared to shoot the another way, he immediately started shooting.
A Pole was hit with 2 bullets. One of them hit him in the right hand, the another in the left clavicle at the neck. The gunshot disabled both the hands of our countryman who was no longer able to fight. His Ukrainian companion pulled him behind a bulletproof vest into a safe place in the trenches. Eventually, the Russians were liquidated with charges dropped by Ukrainian drones.

So far, the Polish volunteer has undergone 2 operations. On Monday, he will be transferred to orthopaedics, where he will undergo further treatments. The soldier has an open clavicle fracture and multiple shrapnel in his handBecause 1 of the missiles hit the weapon right at the trigger mechanism, splashing into respective parts that injured the hand. He is waiting to remove the screws and most likely insert the tiles into the collarbone, due to the fact that he told us that “the collarbone is so shattered that it cannot be done otherwise”. The time of rehabilitation expected by doctors is 2 or 3 months.
The Pole was injured on 3 January and 2 days later He was scheduled to be transferred to work with drones. As he told us, the Ukrainians inactive keep this place for him erstwhile he recovers, but he He wonders if he will not complete his Ukrainian mission.

At the time of the injury the Pole fought in the 24th Self-Mechanized Brigade. The brigade has fought on many key sections of the front since the beginning of the war in 2014, among others, taking part in battles about Lysian and Lysiansk. After Russia's massive invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the brigade again fought for Lysichansk and for Popasna, and besides participated in the liberation of the right bank of Dnieper in the Kherson Oblast.
The brigade is presently fighting in the Jaru Times area. The day before the injury of the Pole, the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zeleński in his speech distinguished the 24th brigade for rejecting the "very brutal Russian attack" on fresh Year's Eve.
