"As estimated a fewer years ago by the State Geological Institute, there is just over 98 percent of the amber resources recognised in our country. We are talking about areas located to the north of Lublin, about the vicinity of Lubartów and Bears.
Neither Lublin nor Lubartov was yet on the map, there was not even anything like a map, there was no humanity yet, and amber was already here. He's been in bed for at least 40 million years. How did he get here? – At that time there was specified a shallow sea close us, and the shore grew forests, they produced resin and hence this amber – explains Dr. Miłosz Huber from Maria Curie University. Although that's not the only explanation. – We find any shark teeth, which means the sea was here. – admits Dr. Sebastian Gnapowski of Lublin University of Technology, but is not convinced that Lublin amber was born in the ancient sea. – He came here from the glacier. – adds.
– The iceberg's got amber in it. There's even a belt on the map, we can see how amber is spread. – explains Gnapowski and explains that it is about areas extending from Gdańsk through Łomża, Volyn, into Ukraine. The first mention of amber in Lublin dates back to the 1930s.... How do you look for this natural material? – We have a georadar with peculiar software. Now the Lublin University of Technology is working on improving this software, and it is an uninvasive search – this is Dr. Gnapowski. – The device sends waves to the ground, which reflect from various objects, and erstwhile they encounter amber, you can see it on the screen.
Amber lying under Lublin is especially valued in Asia. Especially the Chinese marketplace appreciates the Lublin amber, due to the fact that it has different properties compared to the Baltic or Ukrainian, or the Królewiec one. Lublin natural material is easier to process and is attractively coloured. It has specified more yellowish colors that are very desirable, especially in Asia “The scientist says (...)”
