It was an exceptionally good year for method modernization of the Armed Forces of Poland. fresh equipment and military armaments went to all types of troops, and the value of the recently signed contracts is impressive. – In total, in the last year we signed about 130 contracts for a evidence amount of over PLN 153 billion! – Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz informed in late December.

Although precise figures on the implementation of the state budget for 2024 will only be known in the coming weeks, the preliminary calculations are already there. It follows that the Ministry of Defence spent almost 100 percent of the resources allocated from the State Treasury on defence.

And it was a budget of considerable size. After the autumn elections in 2023, the parliament decided that Poland would allocate 4.2 percent of GDP, or nearly 160 billion PLN, to the North Atlantic Alliance evidence military!

In 2024, the Armed Forces Agency, which is liable for the defence department for procuring fresh equipment and weapons for the army, concluded over 130 contracts. Of these, the highest value is definitely the contract for transportation American AH-64E Apache Guardian impact helicopters. For 96 machines, together with rocket weapons, spare parts and logistics package, Poland will pay around $10 billion, or over 40 billion PLN (according to the dollar rate of December 31, 2024).

Strong chord at the end of 2023

However, before we look at the largest contracts of 2024, it is worth mentioning orders ending in 2023 which gave a speech for the next months of arms purchases. Well, in 4 days of December – from 19 to 22 December – the Armed Forces Agency signed 3 contracts worth nearly PLN 16 billion in total!

On 19 December 2023, a contract was concluded with the PGZ-Narew consortium for transportation 24 long-range radar P-18PL. These devices are to be transferred to the Polish Army by the end of 2035. 3 days later, the Armed Forces Agency signed a transportation contract with the PGZ-WWR consortium by the end of 2027. 198 Jelcza trucks (model 882,67 TS) on which lobster-K launchers will be installed. The Treasury will pay PLN 1.5 billion for the chassis. And on 22 December 2023, the Armed Forces Agency contracted in the PGZ-Ammunition consortium almost 300 1000 artillery shells of 155 mm caliber. The cost of missiles to scope military warehouses by the end of 2029 is PLN 11 billion.

Busy Winter ‘24

Usually, for procedural reasons, the institutions liable for concluding contracts for the Polish army in the first weeks of the fresh year tend to focus on preparing fresh tenders and proceedings. Nevertheless, the beginning of 2024 brought a large arms contract. On January 12, the Agency for Armed Forces contracted at Jelcz Sp. z o.o. for about PLN 500 million several twelve tank transport kits and dense caterpillar equipment weighing more than 63 tonnes. The sets are scheduled to enter the army by the end of 2027.

On 2 February, representatives of the Agency submitted signatures under a much higher contract value. For about PLN 1.2 billion seven pontoon parks will scope engineering units between 2026 and 1927 developed by CNIM Systèmes Industrials.

A fewer weeks later, another very large arms contract was concluded. On 29 February this time, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Polish Government, initialled an agreement with the US Government on the acquisition of integrated IBCS anti-aircraft and rocket defence command system for Vistula and Narwi rocket batteries. strategy transportation will last until the end of 2031. Contract value – $2.5 billion.

The last “winter” contract was a contract dated March 4, 2024 for the supply of 6 1000 Carl-Gustaf M4 anti-tank grenade launchers. The State Treasury will pay more than PLN 6.5 billion for the weapons that will be transferred from 2024 to 1927.

From goggles to JASSM

The army did not slow down in the spring. The first large agreement of the Armed Forces Agency concluded with PCO S.A. on 27 March. Contract worth PLN 1.5 billion assumes transportation 10,000 night imagination goggles and over 3,000 PCS-5M night imagination goggles. The equipment is scheduled to scope military warehouses by the end of 2027 run.

A period later, April 25th, Agency contracted 72 modules of multi-guided lobster-K rocket launchers and respective 1000 projectiles with a scope of 80 km and 290 km. The value of the contract amounts to $1.64 billion, and weapons and ammunition are to be delivered between 2026 and 2029.

On May 22, 2024 brought another intergovernmental contract with the United States. This time Poland bought 4 for about $960 million reconnaissance and early informing of Barbara's code name. According to the contract, all of them are to be transferred to the Armed Forces of Poland by the end of 2027.

On the same day, May 22nd, the Armed Forces Agency signed another multimillion-dollar deal. According to the company Jelcz Sp. z o.o., for the sum of over 830 million PLN is to supply the military by the end of 2027 200 self-loading kits for the carriage of containers on the car Jelcz 862 with Multilift MK IV self-loading strategy and trailer for transport of containers PK 2-24-t.

Spring large buying ended with another intergovernmental agreement. 28 May 2024 Ministry of Defence signed a $735 million contract with the U.S. government for the transportation of respective 100 Long-range AGM-158B-2 AGM-158B-2 JASSM-ER. They are to be transferred to SZ RP by the end of 2030.

Summer under Apache

Since summertime months are sometimes vacations, usually arms contracts are much little during this period. However, unless June 2024 brought any large contract, July 2024 definitely made up for it.

4 July 2024 The Armed Forces Agency signed a PLN 1.4 billion agreement with the consortium of PGZ-Pilica+ for logistical and training support (including the supply of school batteries) of anti-aircraft missile-artillery kits Pilica+. 4 days later, 8 July, the Agency concluded a contract with the consortium consisting of Huta Stalowa Wola, the Polish Armed Forces Group, Rosomak and WB Electronics for transportation fifty-eight KTO Rosomak armed with ZSSW-30 tower system. The value of the order is PLN 2.6 billion. Transporters will be delivered in the military from 2026 to 2027.

August brought the largest arms contract 2024, that is order 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters. It was signed on 13 August. The next day, the Armed Forces Agency initialled an agreement with AMZ Kutno S.A. worth about PLN 800 million for transportation between 2026 and 2028 twenty-eight light armoured reconnaissance transporters Tick.

Billion-dollar contracts with MSPO

The global Defence manufacture Exhibition in Kielce takes place during the calendar period of summer, but due to the arms contracts signed at the time, it is worth to dedicate a separate chapter to this event.

The largest financial agreement concluded during this year's MSPO was a contract with Spanish company Indra on transportation between 2025 and 2031. 15 aerodrome control radars (RKRLs) codenamed Drawa. The Treasury will pay PLN 1.1 billion for the equipment.

In Kielce, the contract for PLN 380 million was besides signed with the army by Jelcz, which is to supply the army with 90 cranes of advanced burden HIAB 855 EP-5 on Jelcz 862D.43 trucks.

Winds, wagons, air-to-air missiles

In the last months of the past year there was most likely no week without a larger or smaller contract for the Polish Army. On October 24, the Armed Forces Agency ordered at Lubawa S.A. for an amount of about 160 million PLN 15 1000 Gryf bulletproof vests. They are to be placed in military magazines by the end of 2025.

Three weeks later, on 8 November, the Agency signed an agreement worth PLN 1.32 billion for transportation with the consortium of the Polish Armed Forces Group and Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. Several twelve accompanying, command and logistics wagons for 3 squadron fire modules (DMO) WR-40 Langust rocket launchers. Vehicles are to be delivered to the military by the end of 2028.

November is another intergovernmental agreement. This time, for a sum of about $175 million, MON ordered 232 in the United States. AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II air-to-air missiles. Their first organization is scheduled to go to Poland in 2028, and deliveries are due to end in 2030.

Busy December

The end of the year brought a real dump of multimillion-dollar contracts for fresh equipment and weapons. On 4 December a contract was signed with Celtech for transportation to the military above 300 fuel tanks CD-10s on Scania chassis P460 B6x6HZ. For vehicles to be transferred from 2026 to 2028, the army will pay PLN 1.05 billion.

On December 12, the Armed Forces Agency signed a $310 million supply contract with the American company General Atomics Aeronautic Systems (GA-ASI) Unmanned MQ-9B SkyGuardian MALE class. They are to be delivered by 2027.

Less than a week later, on December 17, the Armed Forces Agency signed a contract with the consortium of Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. and Rosomak S.A. worth about PLN 4.3 billion for transportation 80 Roomak-L wheeled armored transporters (Long) with an unmanned tower ZSSW-30. Vehicle deliveries are expected to start in 2027 and end by the end of 2028.

On 19 December in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish at the Armed Forces Agency, a evidence contract was signed with the “Łuknik” Radom weapon Factory. By his power, from 2026 to 2029 he will be sent to the Polish Army almost 46 1000 MSBS Grot rifles, 13,5 1000 VIS 100 pistols and 1,3 1000 suspended for grenade launchers. The agreement provides that the order may be extended by an additional 23 1000 Grots, 7.4 1000 VIS 100 and 500 grenade launchers. Then the contract value will be over PLN 1 billion.

Strong chord at the end of the year

The end of 2024 is contracts of highly advanced value – in full about PLN 20 billion.

On 20 December 2024, the Armed Forces Agency signed with Creotech S.A. an agreement worth about PLN 550 million for transportation by 2027 (and being brought into orbit) four microsatellites for optical earth observation.

Three days later, the Agency concluded 2 very large contracts for equipment for Polish artillery. The first one, signed with a consortium consisting of: Polish Armoured Group S.A. (leader), Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. and Rosomak S.A., provides that for 250 vehicles accompanying up to 155 mm self-propelled cannons (AHS) K9 Thunder Treasury will pay almost PLN 8 billion. The wagons are to be transferred from 2027 to 2028.

Second contract worth PLN 9 billion, whose side is Huta Stalowa Wola S.A., includes the transportation by the end of 2029 of 4 squadron fire modules (DMO) Regina, i.a. 96 self-propelled cannons (AHS) 155 mm crab.

The day later, on December 24, the Armed Forces Agency signed an agreement with WB Electronics worth nearly PLN 500 million on delivery between 2025 and 2028 of the drone strategy for the detection and protection of the airspace of the artillery subdivisions, as well as the systems of artillery radio stations and artillery calculators acquired in South Korea in fresh years.

The last “large” contract signed in 2024 by the Armed Forces Agency was a contract dated December 27. It assumes the construction by the consortium by the end of 2029 of: Polish Armoured Group S.A., PGZ Stocznia Wojenna Sp. z o.o. and the investigation and improvement Centre of the Marine Technology Centre S.A. a rescue vessel with the code name ‘Reserver’. The Treasury has committed to pay PLN 1 billion for the unit.
