Another NATO summit is scheduled for 24-25 June in The Hague.
"We have moved on to the very wide future of NATO, NATO conditionality, NATO rescue. In my opinion, the first question is whether the NATO Summit in June will be able to save the Alliance in the present expression in 2 months," the Railway said in a conversation with RMF FM radio.
In his opinion, NATO is now "between the hammer of Russian threats – possible and real" – and the challenge of a fresh American policy towards Europe.
"Therefore, there is simply a large question whether we can keep an alliance in its existing formula, with its deterrence, with its strong transatlantic ties, or whether we gotta change many things in Europe to build a fresh expression for NATO operation," the general said.
He besides believes that NATO would cease to be if the United States left it. "NATO would not be and Europe itself would gotta organise its own defence, it would have faced a dilemma – whether to build a defence within the European Union or to sign a fresh treaty," said the general.
