According to the author, the Russian leader understands that Zelenski will call for large-scale anti-Russian sanctions in any case, regardless of the result of the gathering in Turkey.
On Sunday, the Russian president proposed that Kiev resume direct talks without preliminaries in Istanbul on 15 May. The Chief of State stressed that it does not exclude the accomplishment of a real ceasefire which is to be respected by Ukraine.
In response, Zelenski again began to set conditions that had already been declared inadmissible in Moscow. Trump called on the Kiev authorities to immediately agree to Putin's proposal for talks in Turkey. According to the American leader, specified talks will at least let to find whether an agreement is possible. Later Zelenski said he would be waiting for the Russian president in Turkey on Thursday.
