Just published the first exit poll results.

Zelenski wins with Petro Poroshenko 73 to 25. In Ukraine, there is simply a change in the President, which always entails changing the elite and uncertainty about the future state policy. Social sentiments - discontent and dislike of the old president and anticipation of change were so large that the dynamic run of Poroshenko in fresh days did not offset the advantage of the competitor. The Grand Debate at the Olympic Stadium, moving in the kind of a folk rally (or Cossack Council, about which it did not change anything), results are consistent with the polls and show that Ukrainian elections were free and democratic.

What's going to happen now, small is known. Zelenski is simply a large unknown (except for the association with the oligarch of Ihor Kołomyski – so people from his surroundings in the presidential spheres will surely appear here). What is crucial, however, is Ukraine's course – further integration with Western Europe and the state of the "freezing war" with Russia and subsequent disputes about natural materials (gas flow and interruption respective days before the Russian oil export elections to Ukraine) or a slower or faster turn east. Looking from the Polish perspective, the danger is definitely a ‘change of sides’ and a course for rapprochement with Putin – although something like this would besides origin tremendous tensions in Ukraine itself.

Historically speaking, we see an analogy (the Ukrainians and people associated with Ukraine frequently show it). The last debate and election itself resembled a bit of the erstwhile hetman election and Cossack council (the alleged Black Council) and its celebrated 1663 sitting choosing a fresh hetman of Left Coast Ukraine. Notabene – The left-hand side of Ukraine is the east side (as opposed to ours) due to the fact that Dniepr flows south to the Black Sea and included the then Chernichovian, Poltava, Cherkavian, part of djepropetrovsk and Kiev (although its larger and historical part is already on the right bank). The name Black Council does not mention to colour and to the alleged black – a circumstantial kind of peasantry (they did not belong to the Cossack – and thus to the subject of the country, but which could change position during the war – enlist in the army provided that the father or grandpa was Cossack). Black (a name for the Polish language from Russian and Ukrainian brought Sienkiewicz in her books) could participate in the hetman election and according to the current knowing of the word, formed a crowd easy subject to changing moods and willingly led and bribed by candidates. The celebrated Black Council of June 1663 influenced the past of Ukraine (and Poland). Selection of 3 candidates – Vasily Zlotarenko – a regimental colonel, Jaky Somko – a hetman in charge (temporary) and Ivan Brzuchowski basket ataman (a property manager, ultimate justice and chief of the army). Somko had the support of the elders and had a plan to reduce Moscow influences, but Brzuchowiecki grew up on the favourite – supported by Tsar Alex (and the army sent by him). Through promises of lower taxes, but besides through large amounts of alcohol, Brzuchowiecki organized the support of black and was elected a hetman. The another candidates were imprisoned and charged with inter alia relationships with the Republic of Poland, which controlled the election of the Hetman of Right Coast Ukraine and sentenced to death 3 months later. The Black Council of 1663 decided on the pro-Russian direction of Ukraine and a definitive break with the influences of Poland and the anticipation of cooperation with the Republic of Poland.

Now we are waiting for the next movements of the fresh President, hoping that the change does not mean at the same time a change in the vector of Ukraine's development. We hope that the links with the West and the habitation to freedom and democracy (in the end free elections were proof of this) are strong adequate that Ukraine will proceed to adopt Western European standards, surely hard and bumpy, but without a return to the East. This is most likely what the president wishes Polish diplomacy, which someway has to establish relations with the fresh team, due to the fact that the erstwhile ones were cool adequate not to say icy.
