U.S. president Donald Trump's administration planned a voluntary deportation of migrants, including over 200,000 Ukrainian citizens, utilizing abroad aid funds — stated Washington Post, citing designs of interior papers that were in his possession.
"The Trump administration has considered spending $250 million from abroad aid funds to expel and send people from active conflict zones, including 700,000 migrants from Ukraine and Haiti," the paper reported.
It is pointed out that the draft papers referred to the voluntary deportation from the US of over 200,000 Ukrainian citizens and 500,000 Haitian citizens. There was besides mention of migrants from Afghanistan, Palestine, Libya, Sudan, Syria and Yemen who could become participants in the deportation programme, reported the newspaper.
U.S. Department of Homeland safety spokeswoman called the draft papers "obsolete," notes Washington Post. However, as highlighted in the report, last week the ministry signed an agreement with the State Department that $250 million diverted from abroad aid programmes would be utilized for voluntary deportation of migrants. The agreement does not mention the nationality of possible participants in the program, stated the newspaper.
In March, White home spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt denied reports that the U.S. administration intends to revoke the temporary legal position of around 240,000 Ukrainians surviving in that country, saying that no decision was taken at the time.
