Would Poles want to reconstruct military service?

55% of respondents believe that, in the current global situation in Poland, a mandatory primary military service should be reinstated. 35.8% of the respondents are opposed – according to the IBRiS survey for “Rzeczpospolita”.

The results of the IBRiS poll were published on Tuesday by “Rzeczpospolita” and respondents were asked if they felt that compulsory military service should be restored in the current global situation in Poland.

21.9% of respondents stated that "agreement" mandatory service should return and 33.1 percent said "more" should return. A full of 35.8% of respondents are opposed, of which 8.5% are "decisive" and 27.3% are opposed. 9.2% have no opinion on this.

Change of opinion of Poles

Rzeczpospolita” notes that the results of the survey are completely different from those of IBRiS in October 2022. At the time, 35.7% were in favour of restoring collection, and 57.1% were against it; similarly, the results of the IBRiS survey commissioned by the Academic Centre for strategical Communication of the Academy of War Art conducted in February 2023 were presented.

All in favor, all against

The survey shows that both opposition supporters (55%) and the governing camp (54%) are in favour of restoring compulsory military service. They are mostly men (58%), 30-year-olds (56%). The opponents, however, are those 18–29 years old who could be recruited into the army – 45% in this age group believes

As added, people from tiny towns (57%) and villages (55%) are mainly in favour of restoring compulsory service in the military.

They are usually people with primary or vocational education (82 percent). Supporters of the return of specified training are mainly those who closely follow events in politics, and in fresh parliamentary elections voted for : the Confederation (85%) or the Law and Justice (61%). Opponents are voters of the fresh Left (55%) or 3rd Way (43%)

The IBRiS survey was conducted on a 1070-person group of respondents on 7 and 8 March by the CATI method, i.e. telephone interviews.
