Military on the Horizon

Foot patrols, field vehicles and quads, crews equipped with thermal and night imagination equipment, FlyEye drones... Today, Operation Horizon has begun. Soldiers with officials under the Ministry of abroad Affairs patrol places peculiarly susceptible to hostile activities: railway lines, bridges, communication nodes. This is simply a consequence to the last acts of diversion in Poland.

President Karol Nawrocki issued yesterday a decision to launch Operation Horizon. The national defence minister decided that from 21 November 2025 to 28 February 2026 units of the armed forces would be directed to assist police in securing critical infrastructure. The military will coordinate Operations Command of Types of Armed Forces. The Horizon Task Force was appointed to carry out the tasks, to which Brig. Gen. Marcin Siudziński, Deputy Commander of Territorial Defence Forces, was appointed as commander.

DORSZ will have up to 10,000 soldiers from various types of troops, including territorial defence, cyberspace defence, peculiar units, engineering units and recently appointed drone troops. The operational command will decide where and what forces to deploy. ‘Horizon 2020’ is response to train derailment tests on the Warsaw–Lublin route, which occurred a fewer days ago.

– fresh acts of diversion have shown that the cooperation of services under the Home Minister with the armed forces, with a peculiar focus on territorial defence troops, must be even closer – said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish before the operation begins. It will include soldiers and officers operating on pedestrian patrols, field vehicles and quads, equipped with thermal and night imagination equipment, FlyEye drones and helicopters. Mobile surveillance centers will besides be in place, and trained dogs will besides be utilized by the service.

Actions will be carried out on the communication lines, airports and facilities identified by the safety services. The military will focus on the most delicate places – selected by the interior safety Agency, Military Counterintelligence Service and police – and on fast consequence to reports of possible threats.

Soldiers of territorial defence troops have been supporting the Railway defender and police officers since Sunday in patrolling railway lines and places that are most susceptible to diversionary action. Investigators identified perpetrators, Ukrainian citizens, who were accused of carrying out acts of terrorist diversion on behalf of the Russian Federation.
