- I'm sorry. With large pride and satisfaction we stand together present to solemnly open the Hall of Tradition of 16 Żuławski Regiment of Logistics Defenders of Westerplatte. A peculiar place that reminds not only of the past, but besides builds the identity and unity of our military community," he said on Tuesday (17 June) Commander Colonel Piotr Pankowski.
The Tradition Hall is simply a unique place whose main nonsubjective is to cultivate the heritage and past of a military unit. Collected exhibits – uniforms, decorations, archival photographs, papers and souvenirs from abroad missions – make a tale of sacrifice, service and values that form soldiers of the 16th Żuławski Regiment of Logistics Defenders of Westerplatte.
A peculiar place in the Tradition Hall 16 plog occupies a part dedicated to Westerplatte defenders – soldiers of the Military Transit Component, who in September 1939 became a symbol of integrity and courage. Thanks to cooperation with the Museum of the Second planet War in Gdańsk, we managed to make a unique exposition that pays tribute to those from whom we took over traditions.
The next part reminds us of the renovation battalion, on the basis of which today's logistics regiment was built. This is simply a bow to the commanders, soldiers and workers who have built foundations for decades, shaping technical, organizational and operational capabilities.
New in our educational space is the audiovisual room, which will be utilized not only for training purposes but besides for screening films and historical materials. This is another step towards conscious military education, which combines professionalism with a deep knowing of the tradition and value of service.
The beginning ceremony of the Hall of Tradition was made by: Commander of the 16plog Colonel Piotr Pankowski, Deputy Commander of the 16th Mechanized Division of the Brig. Gen. Dariusz Machula and Deputy manager of the planet War II Museum in Gdańsk Mr Mateusz Jasik.
The beginning was accompanied by an exhibition of works by Marek Lewandowski, a photojournalist who made copies of photographs documenting the life of our regiment in the method of cyanotypes of 1842. Thanks to his passion, we are the only military unit in the Polish Armed Forces to have specified a unique photograph gallery.
A celebration from the heart!
Logistics is the heart of the army. He beats constantly, providing support for all unit, all operation, all soldier in need. On Tuesday (17 June), the 16th Żuławski Logistics Regiment of Westerplatte Defenders celebrated its holiday.
A commemorative appeal with invited guests, as well as sympathizers and friends of the regiment and residents of Elbląg began in the Kostrzynska Street before noon.
The celebration is an chance to summarize the actions of soldiers and workers of the 16th logistics regiment and thank you for their solid effort.
- I'm sorry. Soldiers of our regiment train volunteers of the Voluntary Basic Military Service, reservists, but above all themselves - intensively and continuously improve their skills in the field of logistics safety – said Colonel Piotr Pankowski. - The modern renovation hall importantly improves our method capabilities and efficient operation of the state-of-the-art military equipment of the units of the 16th Mechanized Division - he continued. - It's another step towards an army of the future - capable, ready to operate under all conditions.
Colonel Pankowski besides pointed to the presence of logistics where they are needed. He recalled how they were providing assistance to the floods in Lower Silesia in September 2024. They are besides constantly present at the east border of the country, where since the beginning of the crisis – aware of the threat and the burden of work – they support the safety of the Polish state and the east flank of NATO.
When celebrating logistics, they do not forget their soldiers: Fr Andrzej Zielke and Fr Krystian Andrzejczak, who gave their lives in 2004 for the freedom and peace of Iraqi citizens. There were candles at the plaques commemorating the fallen.
A commemorative appeal is besides an chance to present department awards, distinctions and promotions. - I want all – soldiers and workers – the satisfaction of the achievements so far, wellness and all success in the implementation of plans and intentions, both professional and household life – stressed Commander 16plog.
Today's celebration was celebrated by the participation of sailors from the friendly 13th trawlers' squadron and a subdivision of the 16th logistics regiment in historical uniforms from planet War II.
- I'm sorry. We proudly proceed the traditions of soldiers of the Military Transit Component on Westerplatte, who in September 1939 became a symbol of the bravery, perseverance and integrity of the Polish spirit – said Colonel Piotr Pankowski.
At the end of the appeal, which our guests liked very much, there was a parade drill show performed by the honorary company 16 plog. The soldiers performed the task to the rhythm of the music of the Metallica band and utilized a fragment of the soundtrack from the movie "Star Wars". Interestingly, looking from above, it could be noted that the marchers formed a "16".
Today's celebration was besides accompanied by a show of military equipment, you could besides taste delicious peas and bread from our bakery.
