The success of military scientists. In mid-May, the European Space Agency (ESA) signed contracts with Polish institutions and companies to carry out technological experiments at the global Space Station (ISS). Of the 7 written contracts, as many as 2 will be implemented by specialists from the Military method Academy from Warsaw.

International Space Station (ISS).

In mid last year, the Ministry of improvement and Technology signed with the European Space Agency and Axion Space agreement by which in 2024 a Polish astronaut is to fly to the global Space Station (ISS). According to the agreement selected by ESA and Polish Space Agency (POLSA), the scientist is to conduct investigation and tests for Polish companies and entities during his stay at ISS.

About what these experiments would be, he decided to open a competition to all interested, whose jury consisted of experts from ESA, POLSA and the Ministry of improvement and Technology (MRIT). The global jury for the final stage, i.e. the feasibility assessment, selected 18 projects. The validation of the reported experiments lasted over six months. Finally, in mid-May POLSA announced a list of 7 winners – programmes: "Astromentalhealth", "Human Gut Microbiota", "Immune Multiomics", "Space Volcanic Algae", "Wireless Acoustics", "Yeast Tardigradegene" and "LEOPARDISS".

RECLAMA

POLSA representatives stress that projects have been selected from highly method – specified as the survey of the operation of advanced artificial intelligence units in low gravity (LEOPARDISS) and the monitoring of sound levels on ISS (Wireless Acoustics), by plant investigation projects – e.g. the usage of microglones in future space missions and space medicine (Space Volcanic Algae), to projects for the survey of the impact of space on humans, including its intellectual wellness (Astromentalhealth), the immune strategy (Immune Multiomics) or the gastrointestinal strategy (Human Gut Microbiota).

The success of military scientists

Space competition proved a immense success for scientists with Military method Academy, since of the 7 projects selected for implementation, as many as two: "Immune Multinomics" and "Human Gut Microbiota" will be implemented by investigation teams from this military college. The first will be directed by Dr. Alicja Trębińska-Stryjewska, and the second will be directed by Dr. Elżbieta Trafny.

Dr. Trębińska-Stryjewska explains that the experimentation "Immune Multiomics" is of large importance for future exploration of space. – We want to examine whether the immune strategy of astronauts changes during their stay on the global Space Station. If so, does everything return to average after returning from mission to Earth? We hope that what we will learn will improve the wellness of astronauts during subsequent space missions, for example erstwhile flying to the moon or to Mars," he comments.

The second experiment, "Human Gut Microbiota", besides focuses on the influence of low gravity on astronaut health. “Based on the results of our research, it will be possible to plan nutrition and therapy in astronauts in the event of the discovery of crucial disorders in the microbiobiota of the digestive tracts as a consequence of a stay in a low orbit around the Earth, and possibly in further space travel,” explains Prof. Elżbieta Trafny.

Date of flight not yet known

However, it is not known erstwhile precisely the Polish astronaut – Dr. Sławomi Uznański – will fly to the global Space Station. Initially, ESA planned it to happen in June of this year, but Axion Space, a company liable for supplying cosmonauts to the ISS (to be a multi-member global team), announced in early May that the flight would not take place before September of this year.
