On May 21, 2025, at the Column Hall of the Faculty of past of the University of Warsaw, there was a ceremony of awarding the Ivan Wyhowski Prize, which the historian Andria Rukkas received.
The ceremony was opened by the manager of east European Studies at the University of Warsaw Jan Malicki. After welcoming guests to the ceremony, the secretary of the chapter presented the thought of the originators of the award, the character of Ivan Wyhowski, and emphasized the benefits of the technological stay of Ukrainian researchers in Poland. Then the letter of the president of Poland Andrzej Duda was read by Mr Michał Wołejko from the Chancellery of the President.
During the event there was besides a debate entitled “Do Poles and Ukrainians request a common Polish-Ukrainian past textbook?“who was attended by historians Igor Kąkolewski, Olga Morozowa and Tomasz Stryjek. All panelists replied to the questions asked by the organizers. prof. Kąkolewski noted that the textbook is desirable due to the influx of Ukrainian youth to Poland after the Russian aggression and the outbreak of the full-scale war, the request for both parties to realize the common heritage and to have a solid cognition of what we have in common and what divides, as well as for the Russian misinformation in the field of science. Olga Morozowa stressed the request to show the Polish and Ukrainian position and pointed to the anticipation of drawing on German-French experiences, while Tomasz Stryjek stressed the importance of the preparation process of the manual. In his opinion, a public and academic discussion on the content of the material would be refreshing to the Polish-Ukrainian dialogue, “which is at an impasse”.
After the debate, the secretary and members of the Chapter presented their diplomas to the laureate of the Prize. Ivan Wyhowski Andrij Rukkas and interns: Mykhailo Broshkov of Odessa, Katerina Hlodia of Plains, Vitalia Ivanov of Sum, Oleg Kucher of Podolski Stone, Lidia Lazurko of Drohobych, Ruslanie Martseniuk of Zbarz, Diana Shelenko of Ivano-Frankivska, Olha Stefanyshyn of Lviv, Natalia Svynarenko of Kharkiv and Alinie Yakumchuk of Plains.
