The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Miedinski, during negotiations in Istanbul on 16 May declared that the Russian Federation was ready for an infinite war against Ukraine, and besides threatened to take over the Sumsian and Charkovsky circuits, reported on page X (formerly Twitter) commentator The Economist Oliver Carroll, citing its own reliable sources.
“We don’t want war, but we are ready to fight a year, two, 3 — as long as it doesn’t last. We fought Sweden for 21 years. How ready are you? possibly 1 of you will lose more loved ones. Russia is ready to fight forever...” – the writer quoted the exact words of Miedinski.
“And that is not all. “Carroll writes – A well-informed origin has told me that Russia will only agree to ceasefire if Ukraine withdraws from 4 ‘incorporated’ circuits that it does not even full control (!). Moscow besides threatened with the business of 2 more: the Kharkiv and the Suma region."
In addition, Sky News, citing sources in the Ukrainian diplomatic circles, confirms that Russia has made demands that are unrealistic and importantly beyond the issues discussed earlier. According to this information, among the Russian conditions are, among others, the withdrawal of troops by Ukraine from its own territories so that a truce can be announced.
Let us remind that on 16 May, peace talks were held between Ukrainian and Russian delegations, during which the Russian side presented a number of unacceptable conditions.
Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov reported that during the Istanbul talks the delegations of both states discussed the anticipation of exchanging prisoners in the format "thousand for a thousand".
