Universal military training for men? Poles almost uniformity

84 percent of Poles are convinced that all men aged 18-60 should undergo basic military training - according to the latest IBRiS poll. Although our country's society inactive mainly counts on a professional army, at the same time the number of people supporting the organisation of training for average citizens is growing.

In an IBRiS survey conducted on behalf of PAP, respondents were asked who the country should be required to defend in the event of an attack. 75.9 percent of respondents believe that responsibility for defending Poland should remainder with the professional army – this is simply a decrease of 5.3 percent points compared to May 2023.

84.1% of respondents agree that all men aged 18-60 in Poland should pass Basic military training. In this group, 45.8% "agreementally agrees", and 38.3% "more or little agrees" with this thesis. The other opinion is 12.6 percent of those surveyed (9.9% "preferably disagrees", 2.7 percent "agreement disagrees"). 3.3% of respondents have no opinion.

The subjects were besides asked about the adequate dimension of military training for those able to serve, both men and women. 15.4% believe that it should last no longer than a period (a decrease of 5.3 percent points) and 37.4% indicate a period of up to 3 months (an increase of 6.3 percent points).

Training for more than 12 months now supports 14.4% (a fall of 9.3%). 19.0% of respondents think that it should be mandatory regardless of dimension (an increase of 9 percent points), while 11.7 percent do not support this solution. Expert: Defence training for civilians gain support

According to IBRiS, the survey was conducted on 22 April 2025 on a typical group of 1068 adult Poles, utilizing CATI method (phone interviews). A comparative survey was conducted on 19-20 May 2024 on a typical group of 1,000 adult Poles, besides by CATI method.
