In fresh times, disputes about the assessment of Ukrainian activities have become more acute in Poland and Ukraine. The insurgent Army (UPA) and its function in Polish-Ukrainian relations. The erstwhile head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Volodymyr Wjatrowycz, presently a typical of the parliament of Ukraine, published an entry on Facebook that sparked stormy reactions in Poland. Tytrogram, known for its counterRising statements and promoting flagism, he referred to the UPA symbols present in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His entry is simply a consequence to the resolution of the Polish Sejm, which condemns ideology and symbolism referring to the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (CNS) and UPA. Poland wants to send electricity in exchange for humiliating Ukraine.

“The headgear of today's Ukrainian soldiers is simply a replica of the Ukrainian Insurgency Army Mazepine. The greeting “Glory of Ukraine!” became authoritative in the army. And the Insurgent Military Merit Cross became a presidential honour. The ceremonial font utilized by the Armed Forces of Ukraine is based on the graphics of the underground artist Niła Chasewycz. You can besides mention the unofficial, but ubiquitous, usage in the army of red and black flags" – he wrote on Facebook.
He besides added:
“Therefore no current Ukrainian politician will come up with the idiotic thought of abandoning these symbols at the request of politicians of the neighbouring state. And erstwhile the current politicians replace the next, among whom there will be many who have fought under these symbols, there will be no silence to answer specified statements.”
Answer of the Polish Sejm
During the 16th meeting, the Polish Sejm adopted a resolution on celebrating the 81st anniversary of the crime of genocide committed on Poles by Ukrainian nationalists. This resolution condemns the promotion of ideology and symbolism referring to CNS and UPA. The resolution highlighted:
“The individuals and organisations that organised genocide must be covered by the infamy and forever constitute an anti-model of action.”
In the resolution of the Sejm, “it marries all attempts to relativize the fact about the Volynian Reich and to lie and falsely discuss this event” and “explains the belief that the memory of crimes, tribute to victims and their commemoration are essential for the partnership, good neighbourly and friendly relations between Poland and Ukraine”. It was besides stressed that Poland, supporting the Ukrainian people in the fight against the Russian aggressor, expects fair commemoration of the martyrdom of its citizens at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists.
Reactions and controversy
In an interview with the Espresso station, he commented on the Polish resolution:
“The subject, apparently, remains, forgive the term, politically attractive to Polish politicians. They're inactive trying to compression any election juice out of him. There were hopes that after the change of power, after the resumption of power, there would be less, but we see that there is no less. In addition to the message made by the Minister of National Defence, which could be expected, given which organization he represented (Polish People's Party). I was much more amazed by the vote on this resolution in the Sejm, where only 7 votes abstained and the absolute majority was in favour. A resolution that full continues the rhetoric of Law and Justice, and although there has allegedly been a reset, now there is no majority in this parliament."
Historical context: Volynska Crime
July 11 is the 81st anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Volyn – a mass action of killing Poles by Ukrainian nationalists. As a consequence of OUN-B and UPA actions, at least 100 1000 Poles were killed. Bloody Sunday was the culmination of a wave of execution and expulsion of Poles, which has been going on since the beginning of 1943. These crimes were part of the planned “anti-Polish action” aimed at killing and expelling the Polish population.
UPA symbolism in present-day Ukraine
The UPA symbolism, specified as Mazepine or greeting “Glory of Ukraine!” became an integral part of the modern Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is 1 of many tensions that inactive divide Poland and Ukraine in the context of hard common history. The Ukrainian Pows dancing Army is simply a symbol of the conflict for independency against Russia, which contrasts with the Polish perception of UPA as an organization liable for genocide in Volyn.
