In the next 10 years Lithuania can spend up to EUR 800 million on land mines, says the defence Express portal. Most of this amount is intended to be allocated to anti-tank mines (EUR 500 million). For the remaining 300 million euro, anti-personnel mines are to be purchased. Especially this second acquisition is interesting, and this is due to the fact that until late specified a acquisition would have been impossible. This was affected by the Ottawa Convention, of which Lithuania was a signatory. The Lithuanian LRT portal informs that purchases of mines will start six months after Lithuania has officially denounced the said Convention
