Nitras about the Trzask result
Minister of athletics Sławomir Nitras stressed that compared to the situation 5 years ago, erstwhile Rafał Trzaskowski lost more than 10 percent points to Andrzej Duda in the first circular of the election, he is presently the winner of this stage. Nitras besides pointed out that the KO candidate's performance was not a surprise, but a reason for joy, recognising it as a affirmative forecast for the future.
Minister added:
We're having a large vacation in 2 weeks. A very good president, the fresh president of Poland, a real change. Convince, convince, convince, convince. 2 weeks ahead. Rafał Trzaskowski is present the favourite of the second round. I firmly believe he'll win in 2 weeks.
Let us remind that in the second circular of the presidential elections Rafał Trzaskowski, candidate KO, and Karol Nawrocki, supported by the Law and Justice. The summertime poll conducted by Ipsos for TVP, TVN24 and Polsat News shows that Trzaskowski won 31.1 percent of the votes and Nawrocki 29.1%. The second circular is scheduled for June 1.
Opus Dei Theory
However, those words of Nitras do not appear to be rather specific. A politician in an interview with Channel Zero expressed the opinion that the work for the lower than expected consequence was not the work of Trzaskowski's staff. According to him, an influential Catholic organization, Opus Dei, was to be behind the negative message.
Mr Ko pointed out that Opus Dei, an global organization financed entirely from abroad sources, led a much more intensive campaign. He described it as a violent run that remains unnoticed in public debate.
Opus Dei is an international, conservative Catholic organization with the position of individual prelate, founded in 1928 in Madrid by St Josemaría Escriva. It operates in 68 countries and has about 93,600 members (as of 2022). Among the Polish politicians associated with Opus Dei, the MP of the PiS Marcin Romanowski is listed and, according to unofficial reports, Roman Giertych from KO.
It is hard to explain clearly what Nitras meant and how he came to specified connections. Joachim Brudziński, the Euro MP of the Law and Justice, commented on the minister's statement, harshly accusing him that he most likely saw the movie "Kod da Vinci" on Netflix.
