The president of the United States fell in love with the Giant Mountains. He walked on Snow White twice in 1 day

Long before taking office as president of the United States, John Quincy Adams traveled the Lower Silesian Trails. During his diplomatic mission in 1800 he reached the summit of Sněžka - not once, but twice on the same day. What made the young American so captivated that he decided to return to the tour after he left?
A visit to Lower Silesia was part of the longer journey that John Quincy Adams made in Central Europe in 1800. As U.S. Ambassador to Prussia, he lived in Berlin, where he and his wife Louisa went on an expedition 1 day to get to know more about life, culture and landscapes outside the large cities. From the first day he was captivated by the Jeleniogórska Basin with picturesque views, architecture, craftsmanship and local legends. The culmination of this journey was to be the entrance to Sněžka - and indeed, the young diplomat stood on top even before sunrise. On the way he stopped at the Hampelbaude shelter (today Academic Fire), and the view of the shining sky later described in a letter to his brother as 1 of the most moving experiences of his life.

Snow White with the eyes of the future president of the United States. John Quincy Adams peaked in 1800
John Quincy Adams checked in on Snow White before sunrise. He set out on tour at 2:00 a.m. in the company of Zollner's guide (his wife, Louisa, was unwell and decided to stay at the hostel). For a 33-year-old diplomat, the summit proved to be a unique experience. He spent about an hr and a half at the top, absorbing views and writing down impressions. On the way back about halfway back, he unexpectedly met Louisa. Despite earlier fatigue, she decided to gain the top - she decided that an expedition to the Giant Mountains without going to the highest highest would not make sense. The American did not hesitate a moment. He turned around, and on the same day again he climbed the top. Later, as the sixth president of the United States, he repeatedly returned to this point - both in letters and in poems.
For 20 minutes, we went up steeply. Then a gentle slope down, and for 15 minutes after the plain, until we reached the ft of the right hill, which is called the Giant Head (Snowball)
The darkness of the night spread slow gradually, in the east the horizon reddened from the minute we left Buda, so that I feared that the 'Queen' of the day, as Zöllner calls the sun under akin circumstances, would show its shiny face before reaching the summit; so in order to avoid this disappointment, we doubled the velocity of our climbing and after a 4th of an hr we stood at the door of the chapel on top. 10 minutes later the large dazzling luminary rose in all glory, rising from the dark cloud on the horizon
- John Quincy Adams wrote. The speech of the future president of the United States cites the portal magazinedolnoslaski.pl.

Not just John Quincy Adams. Snow White has written in past and politics
John Quincy Adams was not Snow White's first conqueror, but fewer before him could describe this experience with equally large delight. The first Poles: Michał Kazimierz Radziwiłł and Teodor Billewicz arrived there in 1465. Over time, the largest tip of the Krkonoše began to attract not only mountain lovers but besides those who sought symbolic gathering places. In 1978, representatives of the Polish and Czech opposition stood there, and 12 years later, Vaclav Havel and Lech Walesa. A fewer months after this event, they both became presidents of their countries.
