On Tuesday, a gathering of the Council of the European Union is held with the associate States' finance ministers. 1 item of the gathering is the EU's own resources, i.e. EU taxes. We do not know what position the Polish government has on this matter, but the Confederacy fears that the PiS will accept fresh burdens. Politicians request a veto, propose a referendum and intervene in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
Members of the Confederation prepared a parliamentary intervention at the Chancellery of the president of the Council of Ministers to learn the position of the Polish government before the Tuesday EU Council Summit and details on the introduction of fresh EU taxes in Poland. “We want to know what the government has to say about fresh EU taxes at this summit. We want to know all the details about the fresh loads from Brussels." said Robert Winnicki.
“Since 2020 we have been standing in the position that the Reconstruction Fund and the National Reconstruction Plan are a trap. Today, after more than 2 and a half years there is no money from these funds in Poland, but we must pay taxes and participate in the payment of the euro-long.”
“We request a veto on the fresh own resources (taxes) proposed by the European Commission.” said the leader of the National Movement.
The Confederation is proposing a referendum.
Sławomir Mentzen presented the Confederacy's proposal for a referendum on the adoption of the fresh burdens imposed by Brussels. In his opinion, today's EU decisions are not what the Poles hoped for erstwhile entering the structure 18 years ago. “Poles in the 2004 accession referendum agreed to join the European Union, which was based on freedom of movement of people, capital, services and goods. In exchange for beginning up the marketplace for global corporations, he was expected to sail a stream of money to us. Poles disagreed with the EU, which would impose fresh taxes, take joint debt and not even transfer money.
The president of fresh Hope claims that the Polish government is giving up all the competences requested by the European Commission without demanding anything in return. “This is no longer a trade, or a trade in sovereignty. It's giving up sovereignty for free. (...) This is going in a worrying direction, and it is worth asking Poles if this is what they wanted, which is why we propose a referendum.”
As part of the proposed referendum, the Confederates point out 2 questions:
Do you agree that the European Union should impose fresh taxes?
Do you agree to grow the European Union's own resources and to further grow the competences of the European Union?
“In accordance with Article 217 of the Polish Constitution, taxes in Poland are levied by law, not by decision of the council, which nobody knows.” – stated Mentzen.
