An informal conversation at a beer bar in Toruń pub – attended by Mentzen, Trzaskowski and Sikorski – became 1 of the most commented moments of the campaign. And although no declarations were made there, the political message was clear.

A gathering no 1 expected
On Saturday evening on 24 May, just after the election debate, Rafał Trzaskowski visited the Toruń pub owned by Sławomir Mentzen. He wasn't alone. He was accompanied by abroad Minister Radosław Sikorski. An unexpected photograph of the 3 of them rapidly circulated social media, and the atmosphere at the table aroused more excitement than the presidential debate itself.
Sławomir Mentzen later explained that he did not plan to meet Trzaskowski, but was invited to the table. Radosław Sikorski admitted openly: – Yes, it was my idea. We're not just friends in politics. Compromises are made with competitors.
Why would Sikorski do that?
Sikorski in an interview with TVP Info indicated that he meant to show that you can talk beyond divisions. "This beer I drank yesterday at Mentzen's pub was mostly non-alcoholic, but it gave me a bigger kick than Nawrock's swas," he added, specifically referring to the online legend of the habits of rival Trzaskovsky, Karol Nawrocki.
From a political position it was besides a signal: KO does not exclude attempts to attract parts of the Confederate electorate. Even if not through formal support, it is by showing readiness for dialogue.
Mentzen: No support, no declarations
Mentzen, who won almost 15% of the vote in the first round, distanced himself from the proposition that his presence with Trzaskowski could mean a political return. “I do not support any of the candidates,” he said. He recalled that he had presented the 8 points of the “Torrun Declaration” to Trzaskowski, which were crucial for the Confederate voters. The KO candidate didn't sign them.
In his comments on his own channels, Mentzen emphasized that he appeared at the table as the host of the premises, not as a organization to 1 of the candidates.
Tension in the Confederation
In the Confederacy ranks there were no critical votes against the organization leader. any politicians have assessed that a joint photograph with candidate KO and Minister Sikorski is simply a "unacceptable signal" for a conservative electorate. There have been voices about "Identity blurring".
Mentzen answers: – We are not to close in a bubble. You gotta talk to anyone who wants to listen. Only you gotta perceive with your head.
Conclusions? Poland is inactive politically divided, but...
The photograph from the pub in Toruń does not change the arrangement of forces before the second round. Trzaskowski did not win Mentzen's support, Nawrocki inactive targets the hard right electorate. But the symbolic value of this gathering can last longer than the run fever.
Not due to the fact that individual promised individual something. But due to the fact that for a minute it was possible to see that politicians from different worlds could sit at 1 table – and talk without venom.
