Waldemar Żurek took extremist steps after taking over as Minister of Justice. Poles assessed his actions in the latest poll. 1 group pays peculiar attention.


Two weeks ago, Waldemar Żurek succeeded Adam Bodnar and became Minister of Justice. A fewer days after taking up the ministry, he announced a decision to suspend 46 presidents and vice presidents of courts throughout the country.

As a reason, he pointed to their signatures under letters to the alleged neoKRS or the fact that they are neojudges, i.e. persons who were promoted through controversial and illegal actions of the Law and Justices. Now Poles assessed these decisions in the latest survey conducted by SW investigation for Onetu.

"How do you measure the first actions of the Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek?" - this question was asked to the respondents.

34.9 percent of respondents assessed the activities of Minister Żurek positively. Among them, 16.3 percent consider them "decisively positive". On the another hand, 18.6% had a "more positive" opinion.

Almost 17.9% of those active in the survey expressed a different opinion. In this 10.8% powerfully criticized the minister's decisions, and 7.1% assessed them "more negatively". More than a 4th of respondents, due to the fact that 25.8%, had no clear opinion and defined their position as neutral, choosing the answer "no affirmative or negative".

It besides notes that 21.4% of respondents admitted that they did not know or are not curious in Waldemar Żurek's actions.

The survey was carried out on 5-6 August 2025 by online interviews (CAWI) on a typical example of 808 adult Poles. Amount selection applied.

In an interview with Radio ZET Waldemar Żurek revealed the circumstances for granting him an appointment as Minister of Justice by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

– I got it (proposal – ed.) on vacation [...], just before the nomination. On the last day, Thursday exactly, I came to Warsaw, shortening my vacation. I went to a gathering with the Prime Minister and after an hr and a half – which was truly hard for me, so that I never faced specified a hard professional decision – I stated that it was specified a minute that we could not neglect to take this challenge," he said.

The head of MS stressed that the most crucial thing the Prime Minister had told him was "the sphere of independence". "The Prime Minister said clearly that he wants it to be a man who is not a politician who is seen as independent and who will have a very large space of independency in decisions concerning this ministry," said the Minister. And he added, "I got a free hand to act.
