Soldiers 8 of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Territorial Defence Brigade (8 K-PBOT) took part in a peculiar training on the preparation and usage of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) utilized in FPV combat drones. 1 of the key participants was the 8K-PBOT dron training sub-team — a cell set up by the brigade commander and liable for the improvement of dron competences among the territorialists.

The training was organized by a specialized outside company with experience in the construction, handling and securing of cargo utilized in the drone environment.

The increasing importance of unmanned systems in the modern battlefield

RECLAMA

The modern battlefield is undergoing constant transformation, the most clear example of which is the war in Ukraine that has lasted for almost 3 years. This conflict illustrated the revolution in the usage of unmanned aircraft, in peculiar FPV drones (First individual View), which became 1 of the most effective and cheapest means of carrying out offensive actions and precise strokes. "Instead of competing mass on the battlefield, we focus on getting information as shortly as possible, which allows to velocity up decision loops in order to respond with precise fire as shortly as possible. This is the central essence of the influence of non-logical systems on contemporary war art. Therefore, participation in this training of 8K-PBOT soldiers will let them to usage drones as an effective weapon in the battlefield - indicated a soldier coordinating training utilizing FPV drones in 8 K-PBOT.

The dynamic improvement of technology, low production costs and advanced flexibility of construction made FPV drones start to execute roles that were previously reserved for much more costly weapon systems. At the same time, the threat of mass usage of improvised explosives mounted on specified platforms increased. All this makes training in the field of operation, construction and neutralization of combat drones a key component in the preparation of a modern soldier.

Objective and objectives of the training

The intent of the training was to familiarize soldiers with modern techniques of construction, initiation and securing improvised loads mounted on FPV drones. Participants gained cognition of the FPV drone combat structures and their discharge mechanisms, or mechanical and electrical initiators. Much attention has besides been paid to the risks arising from the usage of explosives and the principles of safe working with them. Instructors draw from the rich experience of solutions utilized in the conflict in Ukraine. Another nonsubjective component that has been addressed is the simplification in the cost of producing non-manufactured combat components and its mass capacity, which can be obtained utilizing 3D printer prints.

During training, soldiers conducted tests of constructed systems, analyzing their behaviour under different conditions and learning to respond to irregularities.

Summary

Training of soldiers from 8 K-PBOT is an crucial step in the process of adapting to modern threats and technological challenges of the battlefield. Thanks to the participation of the drone training squad in 8K-PBOT and a wide scope of activities organised by an external company, participants make applicable skills and complement the cognition essential to learn and improve the principles of effective action in a combat field saturated with combat drones. Both in terms of preparing combat drones and their combat use.
