Slovakia, like Hungary, has serious reservations about the European Commission's plan to retreat from Russian energy sources, so both countries will coordinate their efforts to defy this, as stated by the MTI press agency, citing the Hungarian abroad Minister and Péter Szijártó's external economical relations.
"Szijártó said that he had consulted his Slovak counterpart, who besides made clear his serious reservations about the proposal (European Commission – ed.), so close coordination between the 2 countries is expected", the study states.
Before that, Mr Szijártó said that Hungary would lose EUR 1.5 billion a year if the European Commission's plan to abandon Russian gas was implemented.
The European Commission (EC) presented a draft plan on Tuesday to halt Russian energy imports into the EU by the end of 2027. The EC intends to present in June a legislative proposal to ban imports under fresh Russian gas contracts and existing place contracts. specified a ban should enter into force by the end of 2025. The ban could besides affect the remaining imports of pipeline gas and LNG imported from Russia under long-term contracts. specified a ban should enter into force no later than the end of 2027.
