On Thursday, during the ceremony at the peculiar Forces Component Command (DKWS) in Krakow, the current commander, General Dyw. Dr. Sławomir Drumowicz, transferred duties to his deputy, Brig. Gen. Robert Kopacki. At the same time in Warsaw, defence minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz appointed Brig. Gen. Michał Strzelecki as commander of the KWS.
Brig-Gen Michał Strzelecki – erstwhile commander Commando Military Unit (2016–2021) – from mid-2022 he was the head of the 6th Airborne Brigade. The responsibilities of the commander-in-chief of the NCS will cover 1 July. Until then, General Robert Kopacki will be in charge.
Former Commander of the peculiar Forces Component, General Sławomir DrumovichHe's moving on to General Command of Armed Forces Types. He commanded KWS for 7 years (since 2018) and was the longest incumbent in the 18-year past of peculiar troops. “Or I will find my way, or I will open it for myself” — Colonel Mariusz Lapta, spokesperson for DKWS, quotes the erstwhile commander’s favourite slogan. “Special troops belong to the planet elite present and are equipped with the most modern equipment and weapons,” says the officer and convinces that the large condition of the specialists is besides due to Gen. Drumowicz.
During his tenure, the Air peculiar Operations Unit and the Air Force Military Unit GROM were created, equipped with S-70i Black Hawk helicopters and upgraded Mi-17. “This has enabled us to accomplish full interoperability of our peculiar troops,” adds Col. – As the only kind of armed forces we were 3 times certified to NATO consequence Force, where we were entrusted with commanding peculiar operations of the Alliance. We have thus confirmed that we have the capacity to command both in the regional conflict and in the full-scale conflict," emphasises the spokesperson for DKWS.
The appointment of a fresh commander of the peculiar Forces Component is not the only decision of the Minister of Defence. Today, besides during the ceremony in the capital, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz re-appointed as commander of the 18th Mechanized Division of General Arkadiusz Szkutnik. The fresh word of office of General in this post will begin on 1 July.
