Sikorski: gaps in sanctions against Russia must be sealed

Head of the MFA Radosław Sikorski stressed on Monday after the gathering of the abroad Ministers of the Weimar Triangle that the talks afraid strengthening Europe's safety against Russian efforts to confront. He pointed out that it was crucial to seal and strengthen sanctions on Russia.PAP

On Monday, Ministers of abroad Affairs of the Weimar Triangle and Head of the Ministry of abroad Affairs of Ukraine met in Belveder. It was attended by Radosław Sikorski from Poland, Johann Wadephul from Germany, Jean-Noel Barrot from France and Andry Sybiha from Ukraine.

After the talks, Sikorski estimated that Russian provocations aimed at Poland and Estonia were worrying. He stated that Russia was looking for a confrontation, which was the main subject of Monday's discussions.

Strengthening security

Ministers talked about countering Russian provocations and strengthening Europe's security. Sikorski thanked for strengthening the air defence of the east NATO flanks by French and German fighters.

"We agreed that the key to Russia's simplification (actions) is to strengthen sanctions" - stressed the head of Polish diplomacy. He noted that any gaps in the sanctioning strategy should be sealed.

Support for Ukraine and Moldova

Sikorski declared continuing comprehensive support for Ukraine's Russian aggression. The presence of the Ukrainian abroad Minister stressed the importance of cooperation on this issue.

The Minister besides referred to the parliamentary elections in Moldova on Sunday, in which the ruling pro-European organization of Action and Solidarity prevailed. He stressed that Moldova is the subject of a hybrid operation by Russia and deserves Europe's support.
