On 30 May 2025, the 17th technological Conference of the global Humanitarian Law, "The Challenges of Contemporary Armed Conflicts", co-organised by the AMW Naval Command and Operations Department and the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk, will be held at the Auditorium in the Library of the Main Naval Academy in Gdynia.
The aim of the yearly MPH Conference is to present selected issues concerning contemporary armed conflicts in the light of the requirements of global humanitarian law and to exchange views between lawyers and military and theorists and practices.
This year's edition will be devoted to issues related to the challenges posed by the global law by modern theatre of action, requiring a re-interpretation of conventional martial law standards in the 21st century. Amongst others, the issues of armed action in urbanised areas, fresh technologies, including the automation and robotisation of the modern battlefield, multi-domainness of modern theatre activities, alleged "new wars" (including hybrid conflicts), the function of the media and the increase of the importance of the civilian sector will be addressed.
The partners of the conference are the Regional Delegation of the global Committee of the Red Cross in Warsaw and the Association of safety Studies and Analysis.
The event was under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Beata Rutkiewicz and the president of Gdynia, Aleksandra Kosiorek.
