Roberto de Mattei: War and the large Politics of Powers must be viewed only in God's perspective

Only God in Christ Jesus is the guarantor of actual peace. All historical and political events must be viewed from the position of the order desired by the Creator. This besides applies to the war in Ukraine or the turmoil caused by Donald Trump's politics. The Italian historian, Prof. Roberto de Mattei, writes about this.

Today's planet situation is so complicated that it requires anyone who wants to know about it, a large deal of peace and clarity of mind. The pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian War and Donald Trump's election have disrupted the false global balance. The political and intellectual class that ruled the planet since the French Revolution now sees its power and illusions fall apart. Catholics can only enjoy the fall of pseudo-civilization born of the French Revolution, remembering that there is only 1 civilization worthy of this name: Christian civilization.

Today, however, natural and Christian order is threatened by global chaos, to which all ideas that deviate from the unchanging teaching of the Church contribute. It is in the light of these teachings that the complex global situation should be assessed. The effort to which Catholics are called present is to decision from purely political reading of events to supernatural interpretation, which takes into account the interests of God and the Church.

To realize this, read carefully [...] the radio message directed by Pius XII to the planet on 24 December 1951, on the eve of Christmas. In this crucial document, the Pope addresses the subject of the Church's contribution to peace to explain what it truly is.

The mistake that the Pope wants to dispel is the mistake of those who "consider the Church almost as 1 of the earthly powers, as a kind of planet empire" and ask the Church to either take a political side, in favour of 1 or the another side, or, on the contrary, take a position of political neutrality, forgetting that the Church cannot service purely political interests.

Hence, Pius XII warned that “politicians, and sometimes even people of the Church, who intend to make the Bride of Christ their ally or tool of national or global political machinations, would harm the very essence of the Church. They would do harm to the life of the Church itself; in a word, they would lower it to the same plane on which conflicts of worldly interests take place. This is and will stay true, even if it is about objectives and interests justified in themselves."

The Church does not contribute to peace through political decisions, but by reminding the planet of large truths that go beyond politics. "Anyone, therefore, who wishes to break distant the Church from its expected neutrality, to press upon it in the substance of peace, or to violate its right to freely decide whether, erstwhile and how he wants to stand on the side of various conflicts, would not facilitate his contribution to peace. The Church's business of different parties, including political matters, can never be purely political. There must always be “sub specie aeternitatis”, under God’s law, his order, his values, his standards.”

The Pope adds: “It is frequently the case that purely earthly powers and institutions abandon their neutrality to stand on 1 side present and possibly on the another tomorrow. It is simply a game full of machinations, which can be explained by the constant fluctuation of worldly interests. But the Church stays distant from these variables. If he judges, it is not to depart from the previously observed neutrality, due to the fact that God is never neutral towards human affairs, and so the Church cannot be so. If he speaks, it is by virtue of his divine mission, which God desires. If he speaks and judges the problems of today, then with a clear awareness of prediction, in virtue of the Holy Spirit, [in the name of] the judgement which at the end of time will confirm and sanction his Lord and Head, the justice of the Universe."

The Pope emphasizes that God is never neutral in human matters, and all the more so the Church cannot be neutral. This means that he participates in the battles of the world, but its criteria are not political due to the fact that he has in head not the worldly interests of nations or individuals, but the glory of God and the good of souls. The Church, recalls Pius XII, "cannot afford to justice according to purely political criteria; must not associate the interests of religion with the directions set by purely earthly purposes; must not put herself at hazard that its spiritual character may be called into question; must not forget, even for a moment, that his character as a typical of God on earth does not let him to stay indifferent, even for a moment, between good and evil in human affairs."

“The kid who lies in the cradle of Bethlehem,” he stresses, “is the boy of God who has become Man, and his name is “Princess pacis”, Prince of Peace.” But “when the Church and its ultimate Shepherd decision distant from the sweet intimacy of peace and warmth of heart, the kid of Bethlehem feels as if struck by the current of the freezing air. This planet only speaks of peace, but there is no peace; it claims all possible and impossible legal title to establish peace, but it does not know or admit this peace mission which emanates straight from God, the mission of peaceful spiritual power of the Church. Shortsighted unfortunates whose narrow field of view does not go beyond the foreseeable prospects of this hour, beyond calculating military and economical potential! How can these people have the slightest thought of the importance and importance of spiritual authority to solve the problem of peace? These superficial minds, incapable to see in all their fact and the abundance of the value and creative power of Christendom; how could they not stay skeptical and contemptible of the peaceable power of the Church?"

Pius XII continues and summarizes: "And today, as on another occasions, before the manger of the Divine Prince of Peace, we see that we must declare: the planet is far from the order which God in Christ wanted, which guarantees actual and lasting peace." It is so essential to “focus our eyes on the Christian order which present besides many have lost sight.” [...]

In the face of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and all the crises of our times, we summarise our position as follows: national and global political events must always be assessed solely "sub specie aeternitatis", "in the light of God's law, his order, his values, his standards." Only the order established by God in Christ stops war and guarantees actual and lasting peace. This area has nothing to do with the false area that politicians and people who think in terms of temporality cite.
