Exactly 127 years ago there was a memorable conference convened by Leo Taxil, which proved to be the finale of his many years of intrigue:
...Being aware that a critical mass of absurdity he implemented and sold to France, Europe and the Catholic Church was achieved Taxil ordered the final game. On 19 April 1897 (Easter Monday) he convened a press conference to the office of the Geographical Society at Saint-Germain Boulevard. Its goal was to present the collected Diana Vaughan and, on the occasion, draw among the participants of the 400 franc typewriter. As an incomparable champion public relations Taxil invited prominent figures of the Catholic Church. Representatives of the nuncio and Archbishop of Paris are here. He besides did not forget to invitation well-known freethinkers, masons, and anticlericals, as well as many journalists.
The conference was brief and limited to a message by Taxila: Honorable Fathers, ladies and gentlemen! Do not be angry, but laughter with all your heart. There was no sign of a Masonic conspiracy...
