Major General Dr. Roman Polko, p.o. Head of National safety Bureau (2007), Deputy Head of BBN (2006 – 2008), GROM unit commander (2000 – 2004):
– In Poland, during the times of the Polish People's Republic there were active muslim terrorist cells, but that they were allies of our then power and so there were no acts of violence. In 1982, a terrorist attack on the Polish embassy in Bern was carried out (a erstwhile safety officer – the author was the head of the attackers). General Edwin Rozłubirski then developed a concept of creating an entity prepared to conduct peculiar operations, anti-terrorism operations, including in 3rd countries. Finally, GROM was not established until 1990, after 2 Poles were shot in Beirut.
Since there was no terrorism in Poland, politicians wanted to destruct GROM. Fortunately, it didn't work. Our country, so far, is fortunately not on the terrorist list. But that can change in 10 to 15 years. The increase in terrorist threats will increase with the increase in the number of immigrants coming to us from Africa and the mediate East. However, the biggest terrorist threat threatens and is likely to endanger Poland from Russia and Belarus.
Eastern Threat
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine 3.5 million Ukrainians or people who claimed to be Ukrainians have passed through Poland. There's about a million of them left. The vast majority work or learn, but it is clear that among specified a large crowd of people there must be people associated with the services of Russia and its allies. any may be “sleeped” and never take any forceful action, at most serving as a origin of contact or collecting information. But there are most likely besides people prepared for diversion and disinformation activities. Last year's exhibition hall fire at Marywilska in Warsaw (fired 1,400 shops and service points – the author), as stated by government representatives, was an act of diversion from Russia or its allies. In 2024 the assassination of the president of Ukraine was thwarted, which was to be carried out in Poland at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport. It was from Moscow's inspiration and for her money that cameras were installed on routes of transport of military equipment to Ukraine, anti-Ukrainian flyers were spread, inscriptions were painted on the walls. Disposal of mobile telephone masts or rails is not peculiarly difficult.
That's why I'm little afraid of terrorists from the mediate East than terrorists and bandits from Putin and Lukashenko. Among specified people, of course, there may be people from Asia or Africa, in order to destabilise not only the situation in our country but besides to incite hatred of people of a different color.
Therefore, the services must monitor the situation at all times. But the attitude of society is equally crucial or even more important. The point is not to make a temper of horror, but to make Poles aware that they should pay attention to suspicious or different behaviours, events. Israel's society is the most disciplined and conscious in this respect, but it has been at war practically since 1948.
