The beginning of the outdoor exhibition "The conflict of Monte Cassino 1944" and the nationwide technological conference on this subject began celebrations of 80 in Szczecin. Anniversary of this 1 of the top battles of Poles during planet War II. The event was organized by the Szczecin Branch of the Institute of National Memory.
The exhibition stood on Wednesday morning in the very centre of the city, in the Consensual Square. It consists of 21 boards presenting the conflict and destiny of the 2nd Polish Corps commanded by General Władysław Anders. It is unique due to the fact that the photographs in it come from many sources and are frequently unpublished or not known. It is an exhibition from private archives, including prof. Bogusław and Michał Poles, Prof. Waldemar Handke, as well as the Polish Institute and the Sikorski Museum in London, the Józef Piłsudski Institute in Nowy Jorsk or the Berlin Bundesarchiv, due to the fact that the exhibition presents the conflict from a Polish, Allied and German perspective.
The exhibition was opened by the manager of Szczecin Institute of National Memory in Szczecin Krzysztof Męciński and professors Bogusław and Michał Polaków. They came to the opening, decorated on white shirts with red poppies, students of the 9th Monte Cassino Heroes advanced School in Szczecin.
- I'm sorry. It was a large and very crucial battle, and the triumph in it was besides crucial due to the fact that the Germans treated Monte Cassino propagandaly by directing their best military there – the paratroopers of Herman Goering – said Prof. Bogusław Polak, a known investigator of the past of the Polish Armed Forces in the West. However, he added that, contrary to popular narrative, it was not a conflict of “the bloodiest”. “This legend was arranged, but 2 Corps lost 923 soldiers under Monte Cassino, counting little than 50,000 soldiers,” said the scientist. He stressed the crucial function of quartermastership and sanitary services. – It was the largest material conflict of planet War II. To this day there are military materials in the caves around the monastery.

"The conflict of Monte Cassino, whose 80th anniversary we celebrate, was 1 of the most crucial Polish weapons in past and requires the memory of the soldiers who fought in it, soldiers – wanderers – exiles to Siberia, from whom General Anders managed to make a strong, well-trained army, which was a large success in this battle," says manager of the Szczecin Branch of the Institute of National Memory Krzysztof Męciński. – We must take care of her memory, the more I am glad to be present at the beginning of the exhibition and at the technological conference not only scientists, but besides young people from the 9th Monte Cassino Heroes' advanced School in Szczecin. Who, like them, should peculiarly cultivate this memory, and have been doing so for many years.
