Four Eurofighters make a very tangible contribution to the defence of the Polish airspace and the east flank of NATO – said Deputy Minister of Defence Paweł Zalewski present in Malbork. In the 22nd Tactical Air Base, Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft began on work by the German Air Force. Nils Schmid, Deputy Minister of Defence of Germany, attended the inauguration of the mission.

Eurofighter Typhoon multitasking aircraft have been stationed at the 22nd Tactical Aviation Base in Malbork since 4 December. The Germans sent 4 fighters and 150 airmen and ground handling workers to Poland. Allied fighters began combat work and oversight of NATO's east flank airspace as part of the Air Police mission.

This shows how serious Germany's contribution to defending the east flank of NATO is," said Deputy Minister of Defence Paweł Zalewski. At the same time, he announced that at the beginning of next year a branch of German engineering troops would besides arrive in Poland, which would be active in the implementation of the programme "Eastern ShieldIt’s okay. ”

As partners and allies we stand on the side of Poland, on your side. For respective days now, 4 Luftwaffe fighters have been located here in Malbork – Schmid said to the gathered in the 22nd BLT. He stressed that in this way Germany strengthens its presence on the east flank of NATO to deter the enemy.

The Secretary of State in the German Ministry of Defence pointed out that his country was first active in the protection of NATO space, simultaneously involving 2 military contingents – 1 in Poland, the another in Romania. – Our pilots are eyes and ears in airspace. They're well trained, and they know precisely what to do. Together with their partners, allied pilots, they defender the safety of the east flank wing into wing. And this is the way it should be," Schmid added.

It's not the only backup from Berlin. By early December, a German military contingent was stationed in Rzeszów-Jasionka. To defend the airport, which is simply a logistics hub for the transportation of assistance to Ukraine, Germany sent 200 soldiers and 2 Patriot anti-aircraft batteries from the 21st group of Luftwaffe anti-aircraft missiles from Sanitz in the Front Pomerania. Now The task of supporting Jasionka was taken over by soldiers from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Let us remind you that within the framework of the mission the enhanced Air Police (eAP – increased air surveillance) at the 22nd Tactical Air Base were already stationed Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from the UK and JAS 39 Gripen from Sweden. The German Air Police mission in Malbork will last until the end of March 2026.
