Karol Nawrocki won the election and will become the fresh president of Poland. Simon Holownia remained silent for a long time, but yet spoke. His comment leaves no illusions: "Please bring Poland peace, not revenge".
In the second circular of the presidential election held on June 1, 2025, Poles decided to choose a fresh head of state. According to authoritative results announced by the State Election Commission on Monday morning, the winner was Karol Nawrocki, a candidate supported by the Law and Justice. He defeated the current president of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowskiby winning 50.89 percent of votesto 49.11% of support for his competitor.
Surprising Election Night
Election night brought many emotions and twists of action. first exit polls suggested a minimal triumph by Rafał Trzaskowski. However, from hr to hour, together with incoming data from the regional commissions, the situation began to change in favour of Karol Nawrocki. It was already before midnight that the PiS candidate achieved better results than anticipated earlier forecasts.
Data coming from western voivodships, previously considered as bastions of the Civic Coalition, indicated a weakening of support for Trzaskowski. Shortly after 1 a.m., the first voices appeared suggesting that his chances of re-election were purely theoretical. About 2 KPW already informed about the number of the votes of 85 percent of the circuits – then Nawrocki led with the consequence 52.5 to 47.5%.. Before 4:00 a.m., with a 95 percent conversion rate, the difference decreased slightly, but the advantage of the PiS candidate was inactive clear – 51.2 percent to 48.8%..
The lobby shall talk only after the results have been announced
One of the people who held off the comment for a long time was Simon Holovnia, Marshal of the Sejm and candidate in the first circular of elections. Unlike many another politicians who kept commenting on the changing situation, Holovnia spoke only after the authoritative speech of the State Election Commission on Monday morning.
In his entry on platform X (formerly Twitter), he addressed both congratulations and an appeal for national unity: "Congratulations, president Charles Nawrocki. There is 1 basic challenge ahead of you: the glued together in half of Poland. Bring Poland peace, not revenge” – wrote Holownia.
International congratulations
The recently elected president besides received congratulations from abroad. 1 of the first people to publically congratulate Karol Nawrock was the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Her entries appeared almost immediately after PKW announced the results.
