The Sejm adopted resolutions on Wednesday on the establishment of patrons of 2025. Among them were heroes in Polish Army uniforms: Polish officers, victims of the Katyn crime committed in the spring of 1940, and Gen. Kazimierz Sosnkowski, Chief Commander of the Polish Armed Forces during planet War II.

– Seym setting year 2025 Polish officers from Katyń, Mednoje and Ostashkov recalls them as surviving figures representing free Poland – a sovereign, arrogant state – is written in a resolution which the Members unanimously adopted. Next year marks the 85th anniversary of the execution on nearly 22,000 Polish citizens who died by order of the ZSRS authorities.
– The crime of genocide, which was committed in the spring of 1940, is an unprecedented execution in past on representatives of Polish intelligence and Polish state elites – recalled in the resolution. It was besides stressed that lie that the crimes were committed by the Germans was the foundation of the Polish People's Republic, and the fact about this crime is the foundation of independent Poland.
As Joanna Lichocka, MP of PiS, said, the Sejm wants to remind the figures of Katyń victims, people with immense merits for Poland, uncompromising patriots. “By establishing specified a collective patronage we express respect for these heroic characters,” noted Henryk Szubiński (KO). Tadeusz Samborski from the PSL-Trzecia Road club added that the resolution is simply a worthy honour to Polish heroes who are symbols of their love of their father.
The next patron of 2025 will be the unanimous decision of the Members, General Kazimierz Sosnkowski. Speaking about this character, Piotr Babinetz from the Law and Justice Department noted that the merit of the general recorded in Polish past is simply a consistent fight for independence, diplomatic work on the global stage, reasoning and acting in the name of the Polish national and political community and unifying Poles against the large threats of independence.
Krzysztof Mieszkowski of KO pointed out that the general was an extraordinary personality and a man with broad horizons. – Gen. Sosnkowski is 1 of the most faithful soldiers of the Republic of Poland and 1 of the most prominent figures of the Second Republic of Poland – emphasised Aleksandra Leo (Poland 2050-Trzecia Road). And she added that setting him up as patron of 2025 would be an excellent chance to commemorate his countless merits in the military and political field.
The 140th anniversary of Sosnkowski's birthday will be celebrated next year. The General went to past as a symbol of the persistent conflict for independence, an excellent organizer of the Polish Army and an unbreakable advocate of Polish affairs internationally.
At the same time, the resolution recalls the general's accomplishments, including the fact that in 1908 he founded the Active Combat Union, the origin of the future Polish army. He was besides chief of staff of the 1st Polish Legion Brigade, participated in the Polish-Bolshevik War, in times II of the Polish Republic he was Minister of Military Affairs and Inspector of the Army.
In September 1939, Gen. Sosnkowski commanded the confederate front, then in exile he was Minister of National Affairs and since 1943 Chief Chief of the Polish Armed Forces. – Supported organisations and activities of the Home Army in the occupied country and opposed concessions against the Soviets, we read in the resolution. After the war, the general moved to Canada. He died in 1969, and after 23 years his ashes were deposited in the Cathedral of St. John in Warsaw.
Members besides established the year 2025 as the Year of author Stefan Żeromski, artist Olga Boznańska, poet Antoni Słonimski and sculptor Franciszek Dusheńko, as well as the Millennium of the Coronation of the 2 First Kings in Gniezno.
