More and more shooting sites in counties

By 16 September, local governments can submit their projects to the National Defence Ministry’s programme “Strzelnica w powiat”. If they meet the requirements, they have a chance to get backing for the construction of a fresh or modernization of the erstwhile range. Even at 80%. The biggest interest in the programme is in the east part of Poland.

"Shoot in the District" program to contribute to the reconstruction of small-scale infrastructure in the country, to the promotion and improvement of small-scale sports and to the provision of small-scale training for as many citizens as possible. Classic, laser and pneumatic shooting ranges let you to get shooting skills at both basic and advanced levels.

– The thought behind this programme, from the point of view of the defence of the state, is to stimulate the interest and passion for the shooting of sporting youth, especially students of military-profile classes, as well as members of pro-defence organizations," explains Captain Michał Gełej, spokesperson for the Central Military Recruitment Centre. “The aim is to make their shooting skills so that the number of trained and conscious citizens who could join territorial defence troops, operational troops or supply trained reserves will increase,” the officer adds.

What are the rules for participation in the program? Different levels of government – both municipalities and provincial offices – may apply for backing for the construction or renovation of 3 types of shooting ranges: virtual, pneumatic and classic. The condition for receiving the grant is to have land on which the weapon scope stands and to contribute 20 percent to the investment.

The amount of co-financing depends on the kind of facility. For the construction of a virtual weapon range, the local government can receive up to PLN 200 thousand. In the case of air, the grant will amount to a maximum of PLN 300 thousand. On the another hand, for the construction of the classical shooting range, the ministry predicted support of up to PLN 8 million. However, the hotel will cover no more than 80% of the costs of construction of fresh shooting stations, renovation of existing facilities or the costs of completion of the investments. The MON grant cannot be utilized for the acquisition of land or property to be converted into a weapon range.

The MON program has been moving since 2018. As Captain Gełej informs, so far thanks to the support of the ministry, 405 shooting ranges have been created – build or revitalized – across Poland. Among them are the most virtual shooting sites, due to the fact that as many as 370. There were besides 28 pneumatic and 7 classical firing ranges.

The interest in the programme is huge, especially in the east part of Poland. – The competition committee has already verified positively 74 offers of powiats and gminas, most of the east part of the country – added Captain Gełej. Applications for backing from the “Strzelnica w powiat” programme can be submitted until 16 September 2025. And all investments that will be supported must be made by the end of this year.
